Been listening to Suicidal Tendencies - 13 non-stop since it was released. Srsly. Non-stop. At least 3 times a day, sometimes as many as 15 times in a day. It totally fucking rocks!
Lots of stuff by Keaton Henson, who I discovered when his Corpse Roads was used as the theme tune for the BBC’s zombie drama, In the Flesh. Gorgeousness. Ethereal, swooning, lovely.
What would happen if Steven Tyler and Neil Young had a love child who was kidnapped by gypsies and sold to Afro-Celt Sound System and then Jimi Hendrix came to visit?
If there is nothing going on, and I am in bed on my laptop and don’t want to use the system resources to run Itunes, or it is overnight and I left my ipod in the car [we have an Ipod clock-radio-charging base speaker thingy] I will turn the tv on to music choice light classical. They tend to play the ‘common’ pieces that tend to otherwise end up being overplayed, many of which pieces are very familiar through use as the soundtrack music for silents, cartoons and in movies.
Last night was a fairly bad insomnia night capping 3 days of about 2 hours of sleep a night. On the positive side they played a fair amount of Greig, some Vivaldi, some Mozart and oddly enough Suppe’s Light Light Cavalry Overture, Rosas Sobre las Olas, which I have particular fondness for because they were both among my grandfathers favorites, but unfortunately they also played what mrAru and I jokingly refer to the worlds most boring piece of music, Pachabel’s Canon in D.
I’ve been binging on the Grateful Dead this week, and now I’m listening to all the covers of Richard Thompson’s “Beeswing” I can find on Youtube. This one is particularly interesting, although not necessarily my favourite.
Great song. I’m seeing them with Phoenix up in Milwaukee in December. Also caught part of their set at Lollapalooza and it was good but I think they’d be a lot more fun outside of a festival setting.
Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of** Father John Misty** and The Replacements.
