What are you listening to now that you love?

I just discovered the song “Unnatural Selection” by Muse. It is simultaneously awesome and ridiculous in a Bohemian Rhapsody kind of way. I’m not sure if that was the intention, but when I put this song on and headbang and sing along, my kids laugh hysterically.

Tame Impala’s “Lonerism” album has been stuck in my head for weeks, possibly because I haven’t stopped listening to it. I am however cutting it from time to time with some Nick Cave.

I’ve been listening to White Lies’ new album a lot the last couple weeks. I especially like “Be Your Man”.

I’ve also started getting into Crystal Castles on a friend’s advice. So far, I think my favourite song of theirs is “Not in Love”.

I also am loving Grimes and Alt-J.

I’d also like to add:

Bipolar Sunshine “Rivers
The Dears “Blood” (not quite obsessed with “Omega Dog” but getting there)
Luminaires “Walk Away
Ben Davis “Precipiced” *
Purity Ring “Grammy

  • anyone else familiar with The Information? They sound so much like them to me…

New Album? Didn’t know. Thanks.

Liking this.

I don’t know if I “love” it quite yet, but Paul’s NEW album is sounding better with each listen.

I’ve been ping-ponging between:

Dubstep: Adventure Club, mostly
Big Band/Swing-style Singers: Sinatra, Jacintha, Diana Krall
90s trance/EDM: Rabbit in the Moon, Leftfield, Juno Reactor

Not quite sure what’s wrong with me, but I’m enjoying it

Not something new, but I’ve long been a casual fan and admirer of Buckethead’s extremely prodigious solo, collabo and side-project works. But it’s only recently that I discovered what wonderful background music it all makes, being that most all of it is instrumental - electric guitar(s) and drums. It also helps a lot that he’s produced several metric shit-tons of output, which is conveniently available in vast quantities through various youtube playlists and such. So, I guess it’s sort of been my default soundtrack of day-to-day life recently, with something always available to fit any mood or activity.

It would be quite an undertaking to describe his work for those unfamiliar, because there’s just so much and it’s all *so *different, so I’m going the lazy way and just throwing up some links to a handful of albums, somewhat arranged in a spectrum to demonstrate the range, roughly starting from slow / relaxing, gradually picking up, on to something funky, then building up (give it a bit) from there, all the way to fast / hard / grinding and finally on to just plain weird and out there. Each link is an album, so you can skip around within each as desired to get the gist, and if the first link isn’t your speed/puts you to sleep, then at least click a link towards the middle then towards the end to get a little taste of something different.

And again, the dude puts out recordings of some sort like every five minutes, so this sampling still *barely *scratches the surface. I’ve had him on heavy rotation for a while now, and I still haven’t had to listen to the same thing twice.

I’m not sure they’re still performing, but if you get a chance to see them live, don’t pass it up.

The wife.

Pandora free online radio. Lotsa different genres. Im liking this right now: Jody Wisternoff

And then I love Celtic harp and fiddle music and all its variations:

Oh, shut up.

But seriously… this is the dumbest, goofiest song in history. Why can’t I stop listening to it?

Michel Petrucciani - Live At The Village Vanguard (1985)

Pretty much going in opposite directions:

Wallowing in '80’s fabulousness with Divinyls (Only Lonely, for example)

…and smoothin’ on down via the ethereal harmonies of Lily and Madeleine (here’s a taste of Sounds Like Somewhere).

Love Moby!!

My heartbeat and my boy Dane’s snoring.

Check out his interview on the Nerdist podcast. If only for what we learn about Snuffleupagus.

Right not I’m loving the Above & Beyond’s acoustic reworks of some of their songs (can’t wait for the album):
Sun & Moon
Love Is Not Enough

Also love the new Arcade Fire: Reflektor

(And still not tired of Moby’s latest.)
