Persian cucumbers! Where have you been my whole life?

Did that Produce Queen mention Lemon Cucumbers? I’ve only had the ones I’ve grown, bug omg, they are wonderful. You can eat them out of hand like an apple. Can’t wait for summer!
So if I get an English cuke is it similar enough?

I tried the plastic wrapped English cukes once. Not that flavorful, but no seeding needed. Too small a sample to make a determination. I’ll look for something labeled Persian and give that a try.

This is educational. I had no idea the cucumbers we get in England were different to those in America.

You’re supposed to remove the plastic first.

They’re called Lebanese Cucumbers in Ottawa.

Totally different than the Lesbian Cucumbers.

:smack:

Mmm, lemon cucumbers. I haven’t had them since my grandmother’s garden. Found them at Seed Savers so I’m going to try and grow some this year.

My husband had never heard of them, but after seeing the picture on the seed package he dubbed them Martian Berries. Now I really hope I can egt a good crop.

LOL! For real LOL

Picked up some of these freaky cucumbers at Whole Foods a couple of times last summer. Very crisp and refreshing.

I like Armenian cucumbers when I can find them.

Also, I don’t like the plastic-wrapped English cucumbers as much as Persian cucumbers. Persians have more flavor, and are jucier while still being crisp.

Picked some up last night at Sunflower Market after reading this thread. They’re crisp and have a stronger flavor, much better than regular cucumbers.

So I googled “Persian cucumbers” and got pictures of… cucumbers. Perfectly ordinary cucumbers, the kind you get in every supermarket, green-grocer and market here in Israel. I’m confused. Does some other type of cucumber exist?

It’s possible that in Tel Aviv what people in the US are calling Persian or Lebanese cucumbers are the standard cucumber in your stores.

In the US the standard cucumber (the one that doesn’t get any qualifiers and is just labeled “cucumber”) is bigger than the Persian, with a tougher (usually waxed) dark green skin and bigger tougher seeds.
