Personal Olympic Connections?

During the calliigraphy sequence during the opening ceremony, the guzheng player (the kinda harp like instrument) was played by the brother of one of my wife’s best friends from junior high. i’ve met him and we have some of his music dvd’s. We didn’t know but while watching the whole family thought it looked like him.

About 10 people from my company (I know most of them) carried the torch at various times in China.

Composer Tan Dun, who did the gold medal award theme music, performed his water concerto in Singapore at my company’s corporate event 6 years ago. I had a chat with him - nice & interesting guy.

My step sister and her husband are contractors working on some of the NBC broadcasts.

Without going 6 degees of seperation, I did get a request to help find a ticket for women’s swimming. A 17 year old woman on the US team’s mother works at Ford. Mom will be in Beijing but doesn’t have a ticket.

(I don’t have tickets and only some men’s soccer is here in Shanghai. If it works out, i’ll get scalper tickets and give China bambina an Olympic experience.)

Given the large number of athelete’s at the opening on their cell phones, I’m wondering if anyy Doper’s got a live call?
