People who tow a utility trailer or boat who don’t plug the lights in. You’re down there when hitching-up anyway, why the hell not? If I were a cop around my neck of the woods I could write ten tickets a day. Any others share my anger?
Meh. The few times I’ve not had the trailer lights plugged in were immediately after I’ve run over the car end. When I do that I replace it asap, but I do not postpone a trip over it.
ETA: although I usually plug in, I do not make sure all lights are functional (though I should). I’m sure some of the trailers without lights that you see are people who plugged in but have a short somewhere.
Yeah, I hate that. The time I drove from Atlanta to DC like that I got a lot of dirty looks.
I’m sorry I killed your thread.
There are so many jerks on the road now that this is only one of the problems. People need to realize that by not being careful when driving they are endangering everyone around them. Cars have brake lights and turn signals and seat belts for a reason, and when people don’t use these it is just an exercise in stupidity to me.
Totally agreed, bearman. Everytime I read a story about someone who died because they didn’t wear a seatbelt, I feel ZERO sympathy. But, going back to my OP, I would be really pissed-off if I rear-ended someone’s boat/trailer/camper because they didn’t have their lights hooked-up, and I would be blamed of course.
It’s just a symptom of the larger problem- people that feel they can do whatever they want, regardless of laws, common sense, or other people’s safety. The sense of entitlement and feeling of “But I’m special, so I can do whatever I want” is my biggest pet peeve.
I’m not sure about that. I have a friend who got out of a ticket for rear ending a car when the cop saw that the wrecked car didn’t have working brake lights. Apparently, it was obvious that the wreck couldn’t have disabled them. In this case, it was the victim who got the ticket. I’m not sure if this is usual, though.
It’s not my #1 pet peeve, but it’s up there. I’m gonna say that folks around here are pretty conscientious though. We know how to haul crap, and making sure there are brake lights is part of that. So a trailer with no brake lights is unusual.
What’s not unusual are semis and other heavy trucks without mudflaps, or with torn flaps. I don’t need another rock chip on my windshield, thankyouverymuch.
