I’m almost embarrassed to be posting this, but what the heck. It’s a lot tamer than some of the threads I’ve seen 'round here!
Now, it is a well known fact that most women’s breasts are not exactly the same size; the left one is usually bigger. This subject came up the other day while I was talking with some friends, and all of us who had noticed a difference said that our left breasts were bigger. We are also all right-handed, and got to wondering whether this has anything to do with it. Are things the other way around for left-handed women? (We do have a left-handed friend who is always happy to discuss her breasts, but sadly she cannot be reached for comment.)
Well, lookee there, the right one is larger. Not that either of them are terribly large to begin with.
I have heard that people use their dominant hands mostly for fine work, and their non-dominant hands for mostly strength work, so maybe the pectoral muscle is slightly more developed on the non-dominant side? Just a WAG.
I never noticed it before, but you seem to be onto something. My right breast is slightly larger than my left. Strange to have never noticed…or strange to have noticed, I’m not sure which
Just to throw off your stats, I’m (strongly) right handed and my right breast is bigger. I guess nobody told them they were supposed to be the other way around. Oh well, I still love 'em even if they are backwards.
Oddly enough (one of my most frequently used expressions when responding to this board), my SO and I were discussing this very issue last night. I bought her some very nice lingerie and was hoping that I had the bra size right. She told me, “Well, my right breast is a C cup, and my left breast is a B cup.” I’d never noticed an appreciable difference, but I’m usually not liable to notice such an inconsequential thing when her naked breasts are staring me in the face.
BTW, most men hang a little lower on one side vs. the other (the left being the lower hanger IIRC), so don’t feel as if you’ve been slighted ladies.
I think the assymetry increases with size.
Mine are… well… not very small at all, and the left is quite noticeably larger. More than can be accounted for by a better-developed pectoral. I can see how it might influence size in smaller breasts, though.
Another variable to consider:
I’m a lefty. I nursed my babies more on the left than the right, it was easier to hold them with my left arm.
Left breast is noticably larger. Don’t remember this much difference before nursing.
When I went in for a mammogram, the nurse asked me if I was left-handed because my left breast was a little larger than the right. I am left-handed. I don’t really see a difference myself, but maybe the one that appears larger to most of you is actually a little flabbier and not as muscular. The one that is more muscular (in my case the left) is actually a little tighter, but when it is smashed out in that vice thingy they use, they can tell that it is actually bigger.?.?
