Persons Unknown (miniseries on NBC) (Spoilers)

So when is this show on now?

The post above said that there should have been a new episode (#10) last night, but my DVR did not record anything. And according to the TV guide, next Saturday NBC is showing football at 8pm. So when is the 2-part finale?

Okay. I was originally thinking I’d just sum up Episode 11. But if you haven’t seen Episodes 3-10, you might still be confused. So I’ll start with a VERY high-level summary of 3-10. Since these have already aired, I’m not going to spoiler-box them.

I will be fuzzy on the details, and I’m probably misremembering some things, and forgetting others entirely, but here goes:

*Joe and Janet bond after she decides not to kill him. Somehow they manage to escape the camp and run around the woods for awhile, where they find an abandoned cabin. They spend the night (no hanky panky), and when they wake up they’re menaced by bees. Janet saves them both and they run around some more and wind up back where they started. So they decide to wait it out.
*Which is convenient, since it turns out Joe is part of the program, and has been all along, although he’s starting to become a problem because he’s fallen in love with Janet. He’s friends with the owner of the Chinese restaurant, who is also part of the program. He’s afraid he’ll have to kill Joe because Joe wants to leave the program, but Janet helpfully kills him (the restaurant owner) in a horrible grease fire.
*Afterwards, the directors of the program, who have been monitoring everything not only through the cameras but also with the assistance of the incompetent hotel manager, kidnap Joe and try to deprogram (or reprogram) him. For awhile it takes, and then Joe goes nuts and tries to kill everybody, but is eventually talked down by Janet.
*Did I mention Joe used to be a priest in South America?
*For reasons known only to the writers, the directors of the program see “potential” in Janet, so they fire the incompetent hotel manager and replace him with an even more incompetent hotel manager, who of course falls in love with her.
*Rich girl Tori escapes (supposedly) but then we find out later that she has been killed (supposedly) by the directors of the program. She is replaced by Dualla from Battlestar Galactica, who is here known as Erika. It takes her awhile to warm up to the group, but she does, especially to Janet. See, Erika used to be in a women’s prison.
*Cameron from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was apparently some kind of financial wizard, who helped his cancer-ridden wife commit suicide. Army Guy used to be a hit man. Psycho Lady killed her parents. I’m not sure what Used Car Guy is doing there. None of them have contributed much to the show.
*Meanwhile, in the “real” world, Newspaper Guy (who presumably used to be in love with Janet, as it turns out he is her ex-husband and the father of her child), and his girlfriend Editor Lady realize they’re on to a story here, so they’re targeted. A helpful private investigator helps them escape to Rome, where they meet up with Tori’s father, who sends them to South America. Tori’s boyfriend also tags along. In South America they talk to a crazy lady who used to be in the program, and then they end up in a town very similar to The Town where are heroes are being held. Turns out it’s not the same town, as its denizens have all just been exterminated. Tori’s boyfriend cuts off their thumbs (you know, for identification purposes), and then they’re pursued by jeeps. Tori’s boyfriend distracts the jeeps, allowing Newspaper Guy and Editor Lady to escape with the Box of Thumbs.

Make sense now? I think that brings us to Episode 11. Next post.

#10 aired last night on NBC here in Boston. According to my DVR, #12 and #13 are scheduled to air next Saturday starting at 8pm.

#10 is also available on Hulu.

Epsiode 11:

*Newspaper Guy and Editor Lady somehow make it on a plane to San Francisco. Newspaper Guy smuggles the thumbs through Customs, only to be apprehended at the airport by Inspector Guy. Inspector Guy takes him into custody, along with his bag, containing the thumbs.
*The new Hotel Manager gives Cameron from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off a shave.
*Joe tries to convince Janet to trust him. Janet isn’t convinced.
*Editor Lady tries to go back to work, only to find out that while she was in Rome and South America, her newspaper was bought and everyone was fired. She is denied entry to the building.
*The new Hotel Manager hits on Janet. She notices scars on his arm. He tells her his wife and kids were killed in a fire. Then he takes her downstairs and shows her his video monitors.
*Editor Lady is also locked out of her apartment. Turns out she’s been evicted. Private Investigator Guy comes around and tells her that she should never have come back to San Francisco. Apparently, she’s been framed for stealing medicine from cancer patients and selling it to junkies.
*Bill Blackham is considering joining the Program, and tries to convince Cameron to do the same. Cameron says that’s a stupid idea.
*New Hotel Manager informs Janet that free will is an illusion.
*Janet kisses New Hotel Manager.
*Joe punches New Hotel Manager in the face.
*Inspector Guy comes to visit Newspaper Guy in jail. He tells him he’s found the thumbs and wants to know whose they are. Newspaper Guy tells him the story. Inspector Guy thinks he’s crazy.
*Janet tells Erika that she thinks she can use New Hotel Manager to escape.
*Erika tells Janet that her name isn’t Erika, it’s Teresa.
*New Hotel Manager watches footage of his and Janet’s kiss.
*New Hotel Manager and Janet meet at the gazebo. Janet tries to convince him to help her escape. It looks like he’s going to go for it, too, and then he runs off.
*Inspector Guy comes back to visit Newspaper Guy at jail. He says that the thumbs have attracted national attention, and Newspaper Guy is going to be transferred to an undisclosed facility. He then tells Newspaper Guy that he’s going to help him escape.
*Old Hotel Manager, now wearing an eyepatch, comes to see Program Director Lady. He brings her the thumbs. However, Program Director Lady shrewdly deduces that there is a problem, since there are only six thumbs there, but seven went missing.
*Newspaper Guy, now free, runs into Editor Lady. He reveals to Editor Lady that he still has one of the thumbs in a bottle of tequila.
*New Hotel Manager shaves Bill Blackham, but accidentally cuts him. Bill Blackham now realizes that the Program can’t be trusted after all.
*Joe tells Jane that New Hotel Manager is lying to her about his scars. Janet confronts New Hotel Manager and he tells her he got them when he was first part of the Program. He thought the best way to escape would be to burn down the entire town, including the other subjects. That’s where he got the scars. Janet tells him she understands.
*New Hotel Manager calls Program Director Lady and tells her that Janet is on board with the Program. Program Director Lady doesn’t entirely buy it, as she summons Old Hotel Manager (with eyepatch) to prepare a flushing of the entire town, including New Hotel Manager.

And that brings us up to the final two.

Is episode 11 online then?

K, I’ve searched and can’t find episode 11, called “Seven Sacrifice”.

How do we see it?

It’s available on Hulu.

Seven Sacrifices

Thank you sooo much!

Though I’ve gotta say, it sounds like a major pacing problem with this series: drag out the initial episodes with not much happening and then WHAMMO! Tons of major plot stuff happens, mostly offscreen and just narrated.
I also agree about the problem with Janet. She’s clearly meant to be the heroine, and all sorts of charismatic and admirable and all…but why? What has she done other than repeat over and over “I’ve got to get back to my daughter”?

Frankly, I get tired of that ‘nothing is bigger/more important than the mother-child bond’, it gets used way too often in shows. And not just the parent in question feeling that way, I can accept that, but the way everybody else seems to fall in line and bow to it. “Oh, you want to get back to your daughter? Well, hell, nothing is more important than that. Why don’t I risk my life? I’ll gladly sacrifice anything to help you out, after all, you’re A MOTHER.”

Ah, I’m seeing the missing episode coming up now. Thanks!

Well I saw episode #10 on the On Demand service, as for some reason my DVR said it wasn’t on on Saturday.

Without giving specific spoilers, it’s really annoying me how everyone who works for The Program goes on and on about how it’s a good thing, and they’re doing it to benefit people and it’s all wonderful and it’s not evil at all!, and yet every single thing we see done by those in The Program is like textbook evil corporation supervillain.

Just watched #11. The problem with this show is that I don’t like any of the people in the town and wouldn’t care if any of them died! I *really *don’t like Janet or Joe. In fact I think the only character I like watching is Liam (the new night manager.)

How’d

newspaper guy get the thumbs through security anyway? They showed the security agent going through his stuff but his bags should have gone through an X-ray machine before that which would have clearly revealed the finger bones.

Just watched episode 10 and Hulu-only episode 11. I think 11 is well worth watching if you liked the rest of it at all.

What is up with Janet, is she some sort of succubus that seduces men? First Joe, then Erika/Teresa, now Liam.

This is why I’m having a hard time catching up on the episodes on my DVR. I would sort of like to know why the people were kidnapped, but I couldn’t care less that they’re all trapped in that town. If the show would explain what the purpose of the program is, but end without them still being held hostage, never to go back to their lives, that would be fine with me.

OK, so there’s football on now on NBC. Wasn’t the finale supposed to air tonight?

Your local affiliate must be preempting it. It is on in my locale.

I’m catching on On Demand tomorrow. I just don’t care enough to tune in.

I’m hoping for some kind of twist to make us view it in a new light. The current light sucks.

That’s bizarre. My DVR has had the football game listed as being on tonight on NBC for a week, it’s not like somethign ran over. So they just decided that New York City doesn’t get to see the finale? That’s some shit right there.

Holy crap! I just turned it on out of curiosity and they are airing an infomercial instead.

What? It’s for foot pain relief.

???

The Boston station showed it from 8 to 10 p.m.

Won’t say anything about the ep for the sake of those getting delayed viewings.

Well? Satisfied or not? Decent ending?
