Pest Control problem

I think I have a gopher or mole or some kind of burrowing rodent in my yard. For the past few weeks, I’ve noticed mounds appearing at various places in the yard. Thinking they were ant hills, I kicked them over, but nothing was inside. Same thing every time I did this. Now I think it’s some kind of burrowing creature, but I don’t know how to get rid of it.

Any suggestions?

I’d shoot it, but I’d have to see it first, and that might be a probably being that I live in a suburban area and the neighbors might not like that (that and the possible risk of hitting someone elses house or someone else).

You can get live traps and set a few up around the yard, in hopes that the critter comes out. And with the live traps, if you catch anything, you can release it. I would leave the traps out overnight as well. If the animal comes up, chances are it would be at night when its less likely to be attacked.

I would also have a pair of thick leather gloves, in case, when releasing any wild animal, it tries to bite. Also, be prepared to check the traps in the early morning and have a place where you can safely release any burrowing animals.
