pet hair/new couch help

What it says. New microfiber couch, every hair is visible as if under a microscope. We have a big unwieldy vacuum, and it would be a stone bitch to drag it over every day and pull it apart to use the attachment, which didn’t work all so well anyway. Hoping for a handheld solution we can use daily. No idea which brand is good, sturdy, would do the trick. So I turn to you, my doper pals. Thanking you.

I can’t give vacuum advice, but these things work wonders to get the Lab hair out of my upholstery.

Thanks Nikki, Any other suggestions, Dopers?

I second Nikki’s suggestion… that, or the sticky lint rollers. Is there a reason you can’t either get a blanket to toss on the couch, or restrict the dog from getting on it?

BTW, if you have your heart set on an electric gadget, go with the new Dyson handheld.

We use this one.

It’s a silicone material that you rinse off under the faucet. It works great.

I have a rubber bristle brush with a squeegee on one edge. I think I got it from Flylady. I mostly use the squeegee side, and am planning to get a plain squeegee to leave in the car.

I’ve seen something similar at the pet store, called Pet Buddies Fur-B-Gone pet brush.

I go with the peel-off sticky lint rollers. Cheap and disposable and work great.

I teach my animals to stay off the couch.

I color coordinate my pets with the furniture.
Okay, not really, but we do pick fabrics that don’t pick up hair. Our sofa and chair are denim, for example. But then we still got the unexpected revelation that the cat loves the feel of denim under her claws.

I guess I’d give another vote for lint rollers. Or short-haired pets in a breed that is low-shedding.

Yeah, we got rid of the microfiber furniture after getting a bulldog. All of our seating is now leather, the rugs on the floor are lighter now too so as not to show fur. We redecorated to mitigate the appearance.

However, for the few months that we had both, we would put a cover on the couch when we didn’t have company over. With company, we would vacuum the couch with the brush roller which took about an hour to completely do (My SO is obsessive compulsive enough to stick with it until it’s done. )

I have a Shark vacuum, very light, with an attachment with this same kind of material as on this thing. I don’t know that you’d want to drag it out every day, but it is light, and it works.

The lint brush alone is fairly effective, too.

Also, pet-colored couch.

Microfiber sofa.

Long-haired cat.

I use the cheap removal method: take a clean, new sponge. Wet. Wring out most water. Lightly run across the sofa. Pet hair should ball up.

You can do the same with a rubber glove (like the kind you wear to wash dishes): wet the glove, and rub across the sofa.

Once the pet hair balls up, it’s easy to remove by hand or via lint brush.
