Pet odors

I’ve finally put my extra house on the market. The realtor mentioned, however, that it smells a little like there have been animals living there (which there have been - 4 large dogs and a cat). My pets have been out for several months, and before I listed the house I removed the 20-year-old skanky carpet from two of the bedrooms (after the animals were gone) and put down new carpet. The livingroom is Pergo. I rented a carpet shampooer and did the master bedroom, but that’s the room I slept in and so did the dogs. I’ve Fabrezed the carpet. Is there anything else I can do to eliminate the odor?

BTW - I brought the neighbor in to look at it and she said she smelled paint but not dogs, so it’s not over-powering. The realtor had a company that she wanted me to hire, but they estimated it would be about $400 (and that’s before they ever came out). It’s been raining a lot here in Middle Tennessee, and the humidity accentuates any smells, in my opinion.

Thanks for any help.

Hm, I’d be a little suspicious if my realtor said there were odors and then recommended someone to take care of the problem. I wonder if there’s some kickbacks going on there. If no one else notices the problem, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I agree.

Pet Fresh works a little better than Fabreze. It’s pretty much baking soda plus fragrance that you sprinkle on the carpet, wait a while, then sweep up. Potpourri helps too. But 400 clams for a hopped up steam cleaning? No, I don’t think that’s the way to go.
