PETA: People Executing Taken Animals?

That parenthetical comment about (abusing animals) is kind of key. What exactly did that abuse consist of? How familiar are you with the abuse animals sometimes go through at animal shelters–and especially the abuse animals at shelters went through in the seventies and eighties, before HSUS and AH became more successful at promulgating best practices documents?

For someone who claims to not give PETA any money, you seem to spend an inordinate amount of time defending them.

“Claims”? That’s a pretty bullshit insinuation about me, pardner.

No, I don’t think they’re a good group all around. I think a great deal of what they do is crazy attention-whore antics. However, I think that the work they do with animal shelters is actually defensible work, and I think the shit they catch for this work is due to two factors:

1. People’s correct hate on them for their attention-whore antics is bleeding over into hate on them for everything they do; and
2. People don’t realize just how dire the sitaution is with animal overpopulation, and the resulting animal abuse and neglect, in the southern US, and they blame PETA for doing things that are actually among the better practices in the southern US.

Now, you can turn this into a personal attack if that’s where you gotta go, but one hopes you have a little more integrity than that.
