If you don’t know, the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment was run by the U.S. government from the 1930s to the 1970s, and it involved denying syphilis treatment to hundreds of black men in the Deep South. What’s really curious about this is that the nurse administrator was herself a black woman? He was born in Prague and had relatives who lost property, and presumably their lives as well, in the Holocaust.
RIP, Peter Buxtun.
