Sure. And if the inciting incident for this thread was “Peter Dinklage snaps at someone who makes Snow White joke” I don’t think anyone would be criticizing him.
Yeah, and I can certainly see that. Many of us here agree that the 7 dwarves are not bad guys or just comedy relief- they are fun loving but hardworking, caring, and brave. They are the true heroes of the film. Oh, but those names! If a short person does a sternutation, he is bound to be called “Sneezy”, a little nap = “Sleepy” and of course- “Grumpy” too many damn times to count. I am sure that gets to be annoying really damn fast.
If they do have 7 dwarves in the remake, give them better names, please.
True, no one in that film has a real name- It is just “the Evil Queen” and “the Prince”- even with Snow White, that is doubtful to be on her baptismal certificate.
As a side note, the 6 are: Randall, Fidgit, Strutter, Og, Wally and Vermin.

Finished my rewatch of Time Bandits. I am not someone with skeletal dysplasia but gosh I did not remember how cringy that movie is from that perspective. The Gang are clearly in the Vaudeville “Dwarf” tradition, falling over each other and comic Punch and Judy style fighting with each other. And while they are set up as agents of the Supreme Being from the beginning of Creation, they are not a clearly non-human fantasy race or cartoons. Good movie but ooof. IMHO of course.
Also to make sure it is clear. Someone in my hypothetical asking me that would being bigoted. Their bigotry would be the result of ignorance, lack of exposure. It would not be the result of the existence of Fiddler.
When QtM, I presume a decent person, made that dwarf joke it was also bigotry, resulting from the same lack of exposure. As a decent person I suspect he has realized such himself. It was not a result of how the dwarfs were portrayed in Snow White.
I salute Mr. Dinklage for his success in having personal success that has also provided images of those with extreme short stature that are not just funny, for providing images to popular culture of full characters who are of extreme short stature. I hope his new movie, Cyrano, is a major popular success. It sounds great!
And I think his blaming the very dated in many ways classic animated movie for people’s current ignorance was misplaced.
Where did he do that? He didn’t blame the movie for anything, he just said remaking the dated movie today was unnecessary.

Don’t know any details about this movie but as I recall the dwarves in Snow White are presented as hard working virtuous men who protect Snow White from her evil stepmother. If that’s not how they are portrayed in this movie I can understand the complaints, but otherwise I never thought of the story demeaning dwarves.
They could go the The Watch route and have everyone normal height but still call them dwarves and/or dwarfs.
So Snow White…isnt…the dwarves are ‘magical creatures’, and no Prince Charming. Got it. I look forward to not watching this on Disney plus.
By the way…this film and countless others have done no favors to stepparents also.

I’m reminded of The Play That Goes Wrong, where in the opening scene the “director” apologizes for the poor casting choices behind their recent production of “Snow White and the Two Tall Broad Gentlemen”.
It reminds me of the old joke where a guy says that he has the actual axe owned by Abraham Lincoln. Twenty years back the handle splintered so he had it replaced, then the blade rusted out so he had it replaced.
Only in this case the ax handle has been replaced with the stick shift from a Chevy pickup, and the blade has been replaced with head from a ten pound sledgehammer.
Godfrey Ho could have come up with a better rewrite than this.
Probably? But I am impressed that you’ve gotten an advance copy of the script such that you have a basis for an opinion!
I’m not the target audience for this thing so even if I watched it my opinion would matter little. It clearly isn’t going to be a faithful life action recreation, but whether that does or does not make for something entertaining will be for those who eventually see it to opine.
Personally I’d be happy if they used the following for inspiration …
Disney first said that the photos were fake and that they were demanding that the Daily Mail issue a retraction. Only to later state that they weren’t “official” photos – i.e., these are absolutely photos from set.
I never saw the original, nor will I see this one, but whoever came up with Snow White and the Seven Dorks back in 2022 should sue Disney for stealing their story.
In those couple pictures they all look like dorks and Snow’s huge robe makes her look like Red Riding Hood. I see it making a half billion easy.
To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.
Looks like they decided to go with “malicious compliance”.
In the movie they are comic relief. “Heigh ho, heigh ho, it’s off to work i go.”
Is this like how they consulted with Black people while making Song of the South? Because see how well that worked out…

So she isn’t going to be “Snow White” in any discernable way, they aren’t going to be “seven dwarves” in any possible way, there is no “Prince Charming” and her goals are different from how the story usually is.
Solution: Call it something different.
