Peter Dinklage Rips Disney For ‘Snow White’ Remake: ‘What The F**k Are You Doing?!’

Didn’t Scarlett Johannson sue Disney over a similar situation? I’m too lazy to look it up, but I seem to recall that she was not happy over the lost profits due to their failure to promote her film, or some such.

Zegler has already made it clear that she wants every penny from streaming and other revenue streams related to her films.

Cosigned. You don’t have to agree with Dinklage to at least understand where he’s coming from, and show a little empathy.

I’ll add my name to this comment, as well.

There is an extremely small chance I might see such a movie with my niece. But even then, I’m hardly the one deciding to go see this, so what I want doesn’t matter. You’re absolutely right. Disney could be firing on all cylindars making the best movie of the year and I’m still not interesting in seeing it. Who cares what I think?

So, we have no empathy with these others?
Several actors, including Dylan Postl, Jeff Brooks, and Katrina Kemp, spoke to the Daily Mail to say that they did not want the dwarf roles in “Snow White” canceled… “When he was cast as a little person role in Lord of the Rings or in a Game of Thrones or in Elf or this that or the other thing… those checks cashed just fine,” he continued. “He had no issue then. But now he wants to be progressive? Come on man.”

“I don’t know if Peter Dinklage is still acting or if he is done now but I don’t know… it’s pretty selfish,” he went on. “People came before him. If it is his mindset that he wants to be the only one then you gotta grow up man.”

“It’s not helping our community it’s taking jobs away from our community that are very few and far between as it is,” he added.

## Dwarf Actors Say That Dwarves Are Not As ‘Offensive’ As Some People Think

Although Dinklage said that it was “demeaning,” actor Jeff Brooks said that he did not find it offensive at all.

Peter Dinklage: He’s Not ‘King Dwarf’

I am just saying what other actors said about his comment. They called him “selfish”.

Dinklage is thinking of all the non-actor dwarves that are adversely impacted by portrayals like this. The actors you reference are thinking about their own paychecks.

Who’s selfish again?

I can empathize with their concerns without shitting all over Dinklage.

Give it a try.

This is also a ridiculous take. Fewer ridiculous takes would be welcome.

The Daily Mail is a right wing tabloid that almost certainly called the actors that they thought would give them the quotes they wanted. That article pretends to objectivity, but it is nothing like.

It is OK for people to disagree with Dinklage. Your summary of what he said, and your repeated reliance on the Daily Mail of all sources, is absurd.

To be honest, it’s not really fair to blame a conservative for citing a conservative source like the daily mail.

I’ve been enjoying the Witcher which has dwarves as characters who are played by dwarf actors. And, get this, those characters are treated as normal people. Or at least, a lot closer to normal people than the dwarfs in snow white.

I believe I have used one cite from them.

You think I- a lifelong Democrat who was even a Democratic Presidential Delegate nominee once- am a Conservative? It is to laugh.

You’re the one obsessed on a dwarf’s initial alarm over how dwarfs are yet again portrayed in movies. Just let it go - it’s not your place to judge him on his initial worry. You’re really starting to sound fixated with putting him in his place.

There’s 851 posts here. 48 were made by me. So, there seems to be a LOT of people obsessed by Dinklage’s comment.

Peter Dinklage wasn’t in LoTR, & the GoT and Elf roles weren’t the fantasy caricature roles of the type Dinklage is objecting to. To the best of my knowledge, he’s done precisely one of those (Trumpkin in Prince Caspian, where apparently he was a fan of the books).

And he very much is still acting. And he has always been progressive. His breakout role in The Station Agent was exactly him walking the walk.

Just because some dwarf actors only think they’re suited for stereotype fantasy roles, doesn’t mean Dinklage has to go along with it. He’s been to the outside, they’re still in the cave looking at short shadows on the wall.

repeat(as I said)edly.

Come on now.

No of course not. He can speak for himself and have his own opinion and that should be given just the same weight as any other dwarf actor. He doesn’t have any special insight or wisdom that would mean he speaks for all dwarfs or dwarf actors.

And I don’t think dismissing those who express a different free choice with that kind of language is particularly useful or respectful.

“caves” and “short shadows”? really?

He’s taken seriously as an actor and not just cast in stereotypical fantasy roles. So I think he does have some special insight for other actors.

The Daily Fail interviewees deserve about as much respect as they accorded Dinklage.

Yes, really.

I don’t see how that follows. He is his own person.

You should be aware that not every criticism of Dinklage’s views come from Daily Mail interviews. I heard dwarf actors and others in that community acknowledging that Dinklage’s comments were well intentioned but actually harmful to their prospects and that he doesn’t and shouldn’t be seen to speak for all. Seems perfectly fair and worthy of an audience.

I’m perfectly aware of the allegory. You are free to use it, I’m just a little surprised that you did and chose to express yourself in those terms.

You could have got your point across in a less esoteric way whilst avoiding accidentally painting those you disagree with as dwarfs in caves with the negative connotations that brings. And why the rather unnecessary mention of “short” shadows? I don’t know if that was gratuitous or unwitting but they are your words to choose so I’ll leave that diversion there.

I waded through that nonsense again after @DrDeth linked it again. There is an important quote from one of the three actors they interviewed:

Then there’s Dylan Postl, who in the midst of attacking Dinklage sneers at him for taking a role in Lord of the Rings (a series where no little people had speaking roles). He, uh, does not come across as the best informed of the interviewees.

Of course everyone’s entitled to their opinion, and it’s true that a system that stereotypes little people also provides work to little people. Capitalism is complicated, oppressive systems are complicated. Even if Postl is making some dumb mistakes in his comments, I get where he’s coming from.

But Daily Mail is a hot mess of garbage, and they’re not interested in amplifying Postl’s voice. There’s exactly one article on their site where he’s quoted. They just want to generate outrage for their outrage machine. @DrDeth might consider no longer amplifying their voice.

His own person who has succeeded in the same industry on his own terms. If he has advice or opinions, they count more than some guy lamenting the loss of some Gnome #3 roles. Because they come from experience of doing just that.

I’m aware. They’re the only one cited just now though, so they’re the only ones I’m addressing.

Then your surprise comes from what, exactly?

Why, exactly, should I dumb myself down for this audience?

You admit you knew the source of my reference. So who, exactly, are you complaining on behalf of?

“Short shadows” are the kind the stereotypical fantasy dwarf would cast in the cave of allegory. Those are the only roles that quoted dwarf actor - who seems completely unaware of all the non-stereotypical roles Dinklage has done - seems to see as open to him. Nothing unwitting about my word choice there.
