Peter Gunn fans?

Home after being laid low by 3rd Covid booster, I’m binging Peter Gunn. I think it’s a great show, and the fact that Craig Stevens was the model for Sterling Archer just sweetens it.

Any other fans out there?

I love the theme song but I don’t really know the show.

Ditto. I’ve seen a few episodes over the years, don’t recall anything special.

Extended high quality version of the theme song:

Few late '50s-early '60s TV suspense/drama shows have aged well.

This isn’t one of them.

Makes the TV Theme Hall of Fame though.

I used to watch it when it was on METV. It went against trope in that Gunn was actually friends with the police lieutenant, Jacoby. Fun fact: Herschel Bernardi, who played Jacoby, was the original voice of Charlie the Tuna in the Starkist commercials.

Violence, 50s jazz and Lola Albright. What more could you ask?

But can Peter Gunn do the Locomotion? Indeed he can!

My favorite mashup of all time, from The Sopranos:

Don’t forget Jake and Elwood.

And of course the ELP version:

Great riffs have a life of their own.

Some pretty good jazz licks in there.

One of the earliest arcade video games used the Peter Gunn theme as its music. I think it was called Spy Hunter.

Found it, what doesn’t YouTube have?

1983 by Midway with 8 bit sound.

Exactly! And the sparseness and film noir look, no doubt imposed by small budgets, makes it more compelling than many later shows.

Ross Martin as the sidekick would have helped. That’s what I liked about Mr. Lucky.

Same here.

Thanks.

ELP covered Henry Mancinni.
Who knew?

Lt. Jacoby was all the side kick he needed.

To this day if I hear that song, I think of it as “the Spy Hunter song”. I’m sure that identifies my age.

Speaking of age, my eyes are getting old and tired. When I first saw this thread on my mobile device I thought it was called, “Peter Gunn farts?”

While Peter Gunn undoubtedly could do The Locomotion, he was much too cool to actually do it.

My late Brother & his garage band did a Metal version of the Peter Gunn theme.
It was well received by the bar set in the Nashville area, & got favorable reviews in a local alt newspaper.
