Music & More music...From Peter Gunn.

Oh yeah, Bay-beeee!

Too cool.

Just got it.

Everybody know the Peter Gunn Theme, but this CD is brimming with Henry Mancini goodness!

I recommend:

[li]The Brothers Go To Mother’s[/li][li]Fallout![/li][li]Timothy[/li][li]Odd Ball[/li][li]Spook![/li][li]Walkin’ Bass[/li][/ul]

Playin it on this.

You, sir, now own the two albums I would take to my desert isle! Enjoy.

I’ve got the original Peter Gunn LP. Also, a different Mancini CD with 22 tracks. What a talent!

If you like that, then definitely get Mancini’s film score to Orson Welles’ Touch of Evil.

As good as that album in the OP is, there are 2 versions of the Peter Gunn theme that I have that are not on the album.

First is the ELP version. I have it from their Best of album, I think it originally was on a live album of theirs.
The second one that I have is The Art of Noise version (featuring Duane Eddy) from In Visible Silence.

It is a great song and every band should probably cover it.

Just a quick note - if you love Peter Gunn, you’d love Rhino’s Crime Jazz CD’s. Great original TV series music from the late 50’s / early 60’s crime series. Some are just amazing.

That sounds like a great concept. I was going to suggest at least the Mr. Lucky album as a follow-up, but a collection of themes from other cop, spy and detective series would be good, too. Without even trying to locate that CD online, I wonder how many of those shows’ music I can name.

Here’s a few off the top of my head:

Naked City
Mannix
Mission: Impossible
Richard Diamond
Checkmate
I Spy

Who can add some others?

What are some others on that CD?

Other Mancini from that era:

The Blues and the Beat
The Mancini Touch
Experiment in Terror
Hatari
Charade
Pink Panther

A few of those are on the first volume of Crime Jazz - Richard Diamond just flat-out smokes! What great theme music…

The music to Checkmate was composed by John Williams, back when he was Johnny Williams. As such he was the main piano player on the Peter Gunn stuff.
