This not pit material but something I wanted to get off my chest, after a conversation with a coworker.
Those are dusters not trenchcoats. Dusters are longer coats that often, if not always drag on the ground(I assume they got their name from kicking up dust) they were generally worn by cowboys. Trenchcoats are what is usually worn in a 1930 detective story. Most of my frustration comes from not being able to completely descibe the difference, but the Columbine morons wore dusters, not trenchcoats(no matter what they called themselves.)
A duster also has snaps or buttons or some sort of fasteners on the slit in the back of the coat. The practical reason for this is for cowboys(original wearers) to be able to ride their horse without removing the coat. That is how tell the difference.
My trench has a button flap at the rear vent to hold it together. But the vent is pleated and not really a “slit”, the edges wouldn’t seperate for horseback riding but would suffice if I had a really huge Willam Shatner ass. It was made in Poland in the 80’s and has buttons and flaps all over the place and a heavy button-in flannel lining and button on flannel collar insert. Lotsa pockets within pockets too.
And come on, “The Duster Mafia”?
I always thought the difference was that men wear trench coats to protect themselves from the elements and they wear dusters cuz they wanna look like Keanu Reeves.
