My wife collects stamps. Like many collectors, she goes beyond the “get one of each type issued” thing to make up her own display pages and learn about the cultures of places like Sweden or Greece by what they choose to commemorate on their stamps.
To make up these pages, she has for years used the jumbo-size (102mm) clear plastic Permagard stamp mounts to hold booklet panes, sheets, etc. in her albums. She recently used the last of her Permagard supply, and, no longer in contact with the dealer from whom she’d bought them years ago, wrote the manufacturer, who no longer makes them.
Does anyone know of similar products – essentially a clear plastic or Mylar sheath into which the stamp(s) can be inserted, with an adhesive strip on the ‘back’ for mounting purposes. Anything that approximates this will be useful information for us.
Thanks in advance. (I put this in GQ because we’re looking for leads to a specific type of product, not opinions on relative quality of known-to-be-available products.)
That’s the web page for a well-known mail order supplier. Good people. They discount. You might be able to find something close to you, but dealers are scarce.
BTW, Showguard have a black background. But, they’re top of the line.
Not so much a bump as a post to say thank you to Samclem. We’re sending off an order to Brooklyn Gallery today for Hawid mounts (we found out that Showguard is available in clear as well as black backing, but she preferred the Hawid product). This was just what we were looking for; thanks a million!
I was away and just saw this thread. For your future reference, there are many online stamp stores with better prices than the place you selected.
I find http://www.subwaystamp.com/ to be really good; I’ve used them for years. They have everything, and give further discounts to members (free to be a member).
