I don’t have a cite because it was a blip at the bottom of the screen on E!, but Drew Barrymore (who owns the rights to CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES) has announced that she has cast Hoffman as ignatius.

Well, he can certainly pull off the Ignatius attitude. I just saw him in Red Dragon, and he was quite the self-absorbed obnoxious and self-important prick. But it ain’t gonna work unless he packs on some serious weight. PSH is pudgy, even fat, but not morbidly obese.
I would enjoy seeing him writhing around on stained sheets whimpering about his valve.

I heard about this, as being tentative. I’m delighted they’re doing it. I think he’d be perfect.

Drew Barrymore has apparantly been cast as Darlene according to IMDB, and the PSH rumor has been out there for a while, but this is the first I’ve heard about any confirmation. I think he’s a perfect choice (and they can bulk him up a little with padding and stuff). I wonder about some of the rest of the casting, especially Jones, the black floorsweeper. He was one of the funniest characters in the book, and played an important role as a detatched observer to the other crazy people in the book. I hope they get somebody good to play him.
