Phineas and Ferb

Oh yes, we’re Frenemies
We like disliking one another
Yes we’re Frenemies
He’s like my least favorite brother

Enjoy,
Steven

They stretched a rubber tree (I think it was a rubber tree) in the Summer Solstice episode “Summer Belongs to You”. Very entertaining episode too.

My nieces introduced me to this and Gravity Falls. At this point, these are the only new cartoons I watch regularly and I love them both. I actually like the variety in the musical numbers a lot. Also, Perry is my TV platypus. For the record, I am not counting the Platypus family from The Land of Make Believe because I can only remember Dr. Bill.

I like the song set in the caveman adventure.

BTW–Vanessa Doofenschmirtz. I’m just sayin’…

The songs. The songs are fantastic. I have not ONCE failed to get teary when Candace sings “I Love You Mom.” I do!

[Doofenshmirtz]SHE’S SIXTEEN![/Doofenshmirtz]

Besides, the fact that she already has a steady boyfriend kind of complicates things. (The fact that said steady boyfriend is Major Monogram’s son complicates things even more.)

"I got records on my fingers
And I just can’t stop

Don’t stop! Don’t stop!

I can’t stop. I got a platypus controlling me!

Whaaat?

I got a platypus controlling me. He’s underneath the table."

My husband wants to be Doofenschmirtz when he grows up, which is kind of worrying. Our kids are hardcore Phineas and Ferb fans, and we’re kind of encouraging it because it’s so funny and clever and (most important) not annoying. Although I do feel for Candace, poor girl. The conclusion to the movie where Candace saves the world is brilliant.

Some of the fast songs (Ready for the Bettys, S.I.M.P., Gitchee Gitchee Goo) are perfect for interval running. They’re catchy, short and have a fast beat.

The downside? Accidentally singing out loud on the treadmill in the gym.

Epcot at Disney World has an interactive P & F Adventure in the where you get to become a O.W.C.A. agent for a half hour or so. It’s pretty fun.

I have often used the word “aglet” when playing Words With Friends. The kids did their job; I haven’t forgotten it.

My kid was late leaving for school the other day. “What is taking so long???” I hollered. “I’m making a new aglet!” he replied. My outstanding question: How many times did he have to watch that episode for that word to sink in?

Also, a friend just named her first baby Phineas. I don’t think she’s familiar with the show. I figure it’ll be off the radar by the time he’s in elementary school, right? Or, maybe he’ll have a lifetime of awesome ringtones. “Phineas!”

I already knew of the aglet from the “enhanced interrogation” of The Question by the bad guys on Justice League. When my kids proudly told me what the little bit on their shoestring was called, they didn’t find my response, “its true purpose is… sinister,” as amusing as me.

Just because I’m so incredibly vain, I have to inform everyone that I’ve known what an aglet was since forever: reading The Book of Lists as a child. Hm, now I’m doubting myself. I know I read it somewhere in a list of obsure names for objects. Others were “punt” for the dent in the bottom of a wine glass and hemidemisemiquaver, a 64th note.

I tolerate the preachy “I know what we’re gonna do today” main plot to get to the best thing on TV: Perry vs. Doofenshmirtz.

How unexpected – and by “unexpected,” I mean “completely expected.”

I was helping run auditions for a show I’m producing a few weeks ago, and the director asked if we could have a consistent set of people read with the auditioners. One of our characters is an evil Count(everyone literally trembles at the mention of his name) whose ancestor cursed the village with stupidity… and then continued to live there so his family was affected as well. So by now it’s been 200 years of stupid curse, and its taken a toll on the current Count. At one point it struck me to play the count as Doofenschmirtz, because, well, it’s a great fit. The audition sides even had a little bit of a backstory where the Count mentions “when I was nine months old I tried to crawl away from home.” The director is a huge Phineas and Ferb fan and loved it.

Tell your husband not to give up on his dreams, maybe the right role will come along and he can pretend to be Doofenschmirtz for a few hours each night for a few months.

The bit about Candace is interesting as well. I have always known one of the hardest things to do in the theatre is a convincing villain(there’s a reason they picked an excellent actor like Jeremy Irons for Scar in the Lion King, and a reason that in the Broadway Musical adaptation of the show that the actor playing Scar bows last). Ashley Tisdale left me kind of intrigued after her turn as the villain in the High School Musical series. She’s done a good job in Phineas and Ferb with what is essentially a one-note character. It’s hard to play a one-note character without it getting stale, but she’s doing it very well.

Enjoy,
Steven

My favourite thing about Phineas and Ferb (aside from the show) is how I can have a completely different experience of being in public just by wearing my Perry t-shirt.

Enough people have told me that I look like I am angry and frightening all of the time that I’ve come to believe them. Having caught myself out of the corner of my eye on occasion, I agree. It’s just my size and the way my face falls, but it’s a real thing and I try to mitigate it when I realize I am freaking someone out. I’ve gotten fairly good at that, but there is still the initial moment.

When I wear the Perry shirt, though, I get high fives from strangers, rather than the “Hello, please don’t hurt me” look. This kind of freaks me out, rather than them, and is a nice change.

It will do until I have perfected my Harmlessinator.

Once I have, the tri-state area will tremble before my innocuous appearance and… Curse you and your sudden but inevitable revelation of my flawed logic, Perry the Platypus!
