Phone question [phone not sending texts]

A friend of mine has purchased a phone from Amazon. It’s a Samsung Galaxy 5. He’s on the Sprint Network.

The phone will not let him send texts. He can make and receive calls, send and receive calls and AFAIK do everything else the phone should do. He can even receive texts. But he cannot send them. Every time he tries to send a text he gets a failure message. The failure message pops up almost immediately which leads him to suspect that the problem is a phone related issue, not a network issue. He’s been through the settings at great length and has called customer service with less than helpful results. He’s going to the nearest Sprint store at some point.

Anyone have an idea what might be going on? I know I’m not giving you a lot of info, but I told him I’d check at this “Forum I hang out on with some tech savvy people” so I’m doing that. Any ideas are welcome, even wild guesses.

Can he check the message centre number in the messaging app? Follow these steps

The message centre number isn’t the local phone number, it’s a network-wide one. It’s not unusual for third-party-bought phones to need the number set up for sending messages. The link above includes the Sprint number to use.

Thanks, Baron. I emailed him the link.

Let us know how it goes.
