I’m looking for this photo, believed to be from 1963 in a LIFE magazine. In a book I recently read (Boy’s Life) they made a reference to it and I think I have seen it before.
Does anyone else know what I’m talking about?
I believe that is the event, was there a photo of a few young girlst standing outside the church that was considered to be the “photo” of the event? I think that is the one I remember.
I think that the picture that happyheathen linked to is “the” picture of that event. Is it possible that you misremember the girls as being there because of the emphasis on the four little girls who were killed in the explosion? They are often pictured alongside that photograph, like this.
Whoops, I see that hh’s link didn’t actually go to that picture. A convenient demonstration of how unreliable visual memory can be sometimes. (Mine, anyway.)
