In around 2000 or so, I came across a book of photography that I would like to find. However, I have no idea who the photographer is. The photos in this book were of mundane, small American city landscapes. I only remember one, and I believe it was on the cover (but maybe not). It was of an empty parking lot at dusk, probably an old, rundown strip mall, if I remember correctly. I seem to remember telephone poles and wires also. You might say this particular photo was in William Eggleston’s style (whom I’ve just discovered), without the saturated colors. I know this isn’t much to go on but any ideas would be appreciated.
I should add that although I saw this book in 2000 or so, the pictures were probably from the seventies.
Gregory Crewdson, maybe?
You could try a Google image search on Jeff Brouws, Michael Eastman, Stephen Shore, Robert Frank, Elliot Erwitt…
We have a winner! Stephen Shore is the guy I was looking for. But thanks for these other names, I’ve already enjoyed checking out some of their work.
