Post some beautiful black & white (or sepia) photographs

I thought about explaining my reasons in the OP but, frankly, I got bored in the middle of the paragraph. Thus I will only say that the images linked may be either in black & white or sepia and should be, for whatever reason, particularly striking and beautiful. It does not matter whether the pictures are landscapes, still lifes, or of human models; I only ask that, everybody show common sense if linking to a nudes and anything else that is not safe for work.

All righty then. Here’s a beautiful black & white landscape by Tim Haylock, from his website. Be warned that, while this picture is certainly safe for work, his gallery includes nudes that are not.

Inside the spoiler box below you’ll find a nude black & white image I find particularly striking, though obviously NSFW.

Ordinarily I prefer small-bosomed women, but something about this lassie appeals to me. Click here to see why.

Anybody else? Bueller?

Sigh…haven’t picked up my camera for too long. Stupid job/stupid mortgage

I have more on a disk somewhere, but am too tired to search tonight.

A picture I made of my father’s birthplace with “Just a hint of color”.

Not sure if it counts since all photos were b/w or sepia at the time, but this is one of my favorite pics- my twin great aunts outside same house ca. 1904-1905. (Not b/w, but same twin aunts-same house with me 70 years later.)

Those are beautiful. I really like this one I took of my friend at another friend’s wedding. I like how it is hard to date the photo.

Old B & Ws count, Sampiro.

Color photos carry with them too much “reality” baggage. B&W is where the art is.

Not really arty and maybe beautiful only to me.

But here is a pic taken maybe 45 years ago of me and my sisters

This is a picture of my parents on their first datein 1936.

Most of the photos in this gallery are color or treated to look like “vintage print” color, though there are a few I did in B&W or sepia:

Bosh

And this is “vintage color” but I just love this portrait of Sophia.

Wow. Gorgeous. Do you shoot digital or film?

It’s really rare that I see landscapes that impress me this much.

Though some will disagree, the wonderful thing about digital photography is how a photo can lose its color data while losing none of its B&W data. It goes from being a snapshot to being something more, though it’s usually more Plus-X than Tri-X.

And yes, a couple years back I tried to talk a friend out of upgrading to a multi-megapixel camera because those pixels would not show up when she printed out her vacation snapshots. I stand behind that, though I know that someone who knew what she was doing could make those pixels dance. One must understand the limitations behind the camera.

Just for curiosity sake: the world’s oldest known surviving photograph (View from the Window at Le Gras, N. Niepce, 1826).

I’ve always liked the b&w pics more than the color ones I took.

Hey, nice pictures, infrared, right?

Here’s a few of mine, not all black and white, some sepia and some monochrome too:

A dragonfly in southern Laos

The road near my office.

A fishing boat in the Gulf of Thailand.

Palace gate in Hue city, Vietnam.

Just a flower and drops…

My girlfriend has some very monochrome photos, she shoots, I process them so it’s 50/50 credit, no?

Here’s me crossing the bridge over the Perfume river in Hue, Vietnam.

A school girl crossing the same bridge on a bicycle.

She has many more in her photoblog, the first one here is one of my favorites.

This, in my opinion, is the best image on Shorpy:

Uh… what?

The entire first gallery was film (yes, Tri-X).

I’ve also had multiple people tell me that even my color digital photography is rather better than “snapshots.” And I should hope so, I’ve been doing this on a professional level for several years. :dubious:
