Photos of French Revolutionaries?

The French Revolution began in the 1790s; photography was pretty well established by the 1840s and '50s. There must be photos of survivors and participants in the French Revolution, yes? Any online, one hopes?

You might try The Daguerreian Society. I did not find any French photos (other than a stereo of the Paris Exhibition, but they might be able to point you to some European sites.

Thanks, very cool link. Even if I don’t find any elderly Montanards, it’s sure to be a fun browse.

Of the more prominent participants of the events of the 1790s, I suspect the most likely person to have been photographed would be Bernadotte, as he lived on until 1844 and, as king of Sweden, had remained a public figure. According to this site, there were photographers working in Stockholm as early as 1840.

Just think, had photography been perfected only 50 years earlier, who we’d have images of . . .

A bodyless head, blinking signals???
