I need feedback, and the people around here are smart and net-savvy.
I have two webpage designs to choose between, and I can’t make a decision. I’ve taken screenshots, and posted them at these locations:

I like the first one better. I take it your site is mainly genealogy? The first one looks more a “genealogy site”, with links and the leaves webart, while the other is more simply a “family homepage”. Just MHO.
Yeah, I gotta say the first one looks more pleasing to the eye. It’s not too busy, the second one has a lot og small photoes that draw a lot of attention.
Another vote for the first one.

I like the first more than the second, but they are both a little bo-ring.
The first one isn’t engaging enough, I think… and the left side is wasted space… the second one provides more information at a glance without having to read a lot of text.
The first one explains what the site’s about at the bottom of the page; the second one doesn’t at all. Ditto on the blank space on #1, but I like the illustration. Also like the family pics on the second, and the overall layout (the whole page is formatted for the horizontally-oriented screen.
But definitely need to work on clearly expressing the focus of the site high up on the page.
Otherwise, nice job in general. Good logo, links are clearly displayed and no bad color combinations (after seeing so many personal Web pages with garish colors and distracting animations and elements, a little restraint is appealing).
