They do seem to detest one another, don’t they? But politics makes strange bedfellows.
I can’t see Gingrich accepting a number two position.
But Santorum as #2 seems natural.

Thank you, I’ll be here all week. Be sure to try the veal; and don’t forget to tip your waitress.
As much as I detest the guy, Santorum would probably be the best choice to run with Romney.
They would, of course, lose miserably In November (by at least 12%), but them’s the breaks.
At least Santorum and Romney don’t seem to hate each other yet, the way Gingrich and Romney do. But that could change. The latest polling shows Santorum ahead of Romney in his birth state of Michigan.
Gingrich’s ego wouldn’t let him take the #2 slot at this point, I think, but he’d do a good job if he took it. He’s got a lot of baggage, of course, but he’s also an extremely effective attack dog, if Romney or Santorum decides that’s the role that they want their veep to fill on the campaign trail.
You can’t have Ron Paul as the veep. He’d flat-out refuse to work with the Romney administration on anything that his principles disagreed with. Imagine if Paul were called on to break a Senate tie on whether to torture Guantanamo detainees or use military force against Iran-- he’d refuse, right in Romney’s face, and likewise refuse to resign if requested. It’d be a hoot, but not an effective government.
Gingrich would take the gig and then start planning the assassination.
