Those things are pretty damn sweet. Too bad they’re only making 23 of them.
So I pulled the trigger the other day. I got my manual Juke. I decided, after having it inspected and getting it in writing, to buy the one from the dealer. The price ended up being in line with what it should have been, so no disappointment there.
This thing is a hoot. The one thing that will eventually wear on me is how loud it is, but the performance never will. I’m going to spend a fortune on gas for the foreseeable future, because I can’t stay out of the boost. It’s just too much fun to nail the fun pedal.
As for the search, I set my net to 100 miles and came up with a total of 8 possibilities. The 6 I excluded were newer Nismo models which, while I would have loved to get, were simply too high-priced for me. I also didn’t really want to deal with interstate registration hassles, though I would have if the price was right.
In the end the one I got was the best available not located somewhere in Irkutsk for the price I wanted to pay.
Congrats! I wish you many happy miles of motoring. Weirdo.
So, are you going after the Pacer fleet, now?
You’re USAF. You know better. Hearing protection dear boy, hearing protection.
I drive a convertible on the freeway doing 90 plus to get to work*. Top down, earplugs in, stereo blasting. My phone says it’s 90 dB in the cockpit. My ears say “Aaah, this is near silent”.
Try it; you’ll like it.
For the non-Miami residents in the crowd: You gotta go 90 to avoid being passed by dump trucks. It’s just how things are done here in the third (or fourth?) world. ![]()
2011 models? Wow. I would not believe that they’ve been on the market that long.
Congrats on getting the car you want!
I’m hoping nobody ever rear-ends or T-bones my much-loved 2006 Scion xB (only 85,000+ miles on it and it runs great) because I’d never be able to replace it; goddamned Toyota skipped a 2007 model year to rejigger the design for the American market and to my eyes totally screwed up a good thing – dumped a bigger engine into it, which lowered the MPG, smoothed out the quirky boxiness into PT Cruiser blandness, smoothed out the cleverly designed dashboard, with multiple cubbyholes and a windshield-slanting top so you could plop stuff up there and it stayed put, into something far more conventional (and less useful) – basically took everything that made it a neat car and focus-grouped it away. I figure with a good mechanic, fairly light use, sensible driving habits, and a bit of luck I should be able to at least double the mileage on it before I have to move on to something else.
Lets see if we can get him to post a picture, with that car and a 1970’s style fighter plane helmet.
I kept my old 80s style USAF helmet & O2 mask for 20ish years. It finally went away when I downsized a few years ago. Would’ve been a cool pic though! ![]()
Johnny might have some cool props he can wear. Maybe like the mad professor on Back to the Future. ![]()
And the 1920’s-style scarf.
Make that Airman Doors, not Johnny L.A. I blame the senility. And the typing on my phone. Which I also blame for including my sig when it’s not relevant.
