Picnic at the Drive-In recipe ideas

Friday night, I’ve got a late night date and we’ve decided to go to the drive-in. He works the second shift (3pm-11pm) so we’ll be catching the 3rd movie which, by then, the concession stand will be closed.

I’ve offered to make a late night dinner picnic and I’m looking for ideas to fill the basket with.

A couple caveats though: No seafood (allergies), no alcohol (obvious reasons), and nothing that needs to be bar-b-qued there (don’t wanna disturb the other movie watchers).

I would like the foods to be fun though, I’m thinking of making cookies and icing them so they look like Gremlins™ since we’re eating after midnight. Also thinking of a fried chicken salad with honey mustard dressing. Ambrosia or fruit salad too. A tumbler of hot cider or cocoa.

Well my first thought was fried chicken. You can make it ahead of time and then keep it cool. It tastes good cold.

Another idea would be a sub factory. Bring buns, various kinds of lunchmeats, cheeses, toppings and dressings and both of you can make your own creation.

It was at a drive-in movie ages ago (don’t ask how long) that many people got their first introduction to pizza pies. Note that it’s two words…pizza pie.
