Due to the protests Illinois State Police have blocked one of the major access points to downtown Chicago (literally the end of a freeway). Evokes “The Blues Brothers” for me. Seems to be a bit more than necessary.
That image was taken a while ago. They are still there as of this post.
State police were blocking protestors from getting onto 676 in Philadelphia, too. They were trying to light several statues on fire, too, and succeeded in burning out at least two cars.
That is the end of the Eisenhower freeway. To the left (in the photo) is the old post office which straddles the freeway. Just north (“up” in the photo) would be the Sears Tower (I still call it that…sue me). To the right, if you got past all those police, the lake and Field Museum and Planetarium and Aquarium are about a mile away.
Think SW corner of the Loop (just outside of that but close enough).
“Eisenhower Freeway”? This is Chicago. It is called the Eisenhower Expressway. All of our interstate highways are called expressways or tollways. I have never ever heard it called the Eisenhower Freeway.
More on topic, Mayor Lightfoot is giving a public address on the rioting and looting in Chicago right now.
My reply was a joke, and I definitely don’t mean to be mean spirited about it!
I’m actually a little concerned right now. The Mayor has imposed a curfew from 9PM to 6am, and the bridges over the Chicago River have been raised to prevent the movement of looters/rioters.
