I’ve got lots of pictures of my kids trying to learn to eat. They’re usually pretty careful, but still manage to get food on their chins, in their nostrils, in their diapers, in their hair, and sometimes in their ears.
But often, “pictures of babies with goop all over their faces” have nothing to do with food. Sometimes a violent sneeze merits a camera before a tissue. And you think pudding on a kid’s face is gross!
It depends. It’s somewhat amazing how they can get it everywhere. My daughter managed to slather herself in banana from her hair to her toes. I have a video of it. She’s conked out in the high chair, and I didn’t know how to clean her without waking her up.
While this is one of the most adorable child pics I’ve seen of anyone I’ve been acquainted with (apart from my own goddaughter, of course), might I suggest a couple of captions?
We have a picture of my little sister covered in chocolate mousse, grinning from ear to ear. I secretly think she looks adorable, but I’ve never mentioned this to her - it would detract from all the teasing she gets from me about it.
You have to remember that parents get desensitized to the gross factor after seeing it several times a day every day.
The only picture like that I took of my son was after I made beets for him the first time. It looked like an 8-month old had slaughtered and eaten a goat.
In general, kids with schmutz on their faces? Meh. My kid, with schmutz on his face? Sometimes adorable. Here’s one (and here’s another) from his first birthday (he messed himself up without help from us, once we finally convinced him to try one little bite of the cupcake). And sometimes you take a picture because you’re surprised at just how much food got on their little faces – like this one (which is funny mainly because it got on his face because he was shoving the mac & cheese in his piehole so quickly). And this one is funny because of the look on his face.
But then there are the tons of times we don’t take pictures of him with stuff on his face, because it’s just not that interesting. And we need to get him cleaned up so we can move on to the next thing, etc.
