Pie poll: What should I make?

How about creating a pumpkin apple pie. Work some sour cream into the topping if you can. and then give us the recipe.

I think this would be good- Peel and slice a bunch of Winesaps. Arrange in a Graham cracker crust. Cook up a pot of full cream caramel candy. Let cool slightly, pour over apples in the crust. Let set. Serve in small slices with insulin and statins on the side.

Original, please.

I use cinnamon and lemon in mine as I like 'em tart and zingy and find all store-bought apple pies waaaaaay too sweet.

What about apple butter? That’s the stuff dreams are made of.

Can I vote for apple crisp? All the sweet/tart cinnamony appley goodness of a pie, except with buttery, crunchy chunks!

I voted caramel apple… but what kind of apples are you using? Hopefully the kind that are tart… granny smith?

Okay, I’ve changed my mind. I’m going with the original recipe, like *dracoi said. The tried is the truest. Tomorrow I will do a test run. I’ve got one of each: Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Braeburn and Pink Lady. They’re all really big. I have a deep-dish glass pan. As I said above, I use honey, cinnamon and vanilla, and I make crust that’s good enough to eat by itself. I’ll do the second one Sunday morning, so it’s fresh. Entries have to be submitted by 1pm.

I wish I’d had more advance notice on this, so I could have practiced other things. Apple crisp sounds enticing…but I’ve never made it before and I don’t know if I’d get it right the first time, or even the second. I will make caramel-apple, though, for Halloween. I have sea-salt caramels from Trader Joes and I’m gonna use 'em!

My favorite pie apple is the Granny Smith, but all the ones you mentioned are good too. I also really like the Braeburn you mentioned.

Oh yeah, apple crisp. I love me a good apple crisp!

I realize you’ve made up your mind, but for next year you could try a butterscotch apple pie. My husband makes one and it’s the only pie I’ll eat. It’s pretty sweet, but you can cut that with some real, old-fashioned, not-too-sweet whipped cream.

Okay, I made the test pie. And I’m glad I did. I’ve found out that for the next one, I’ll have to bake it longer and put tin foil around the edges. Seems to have been the right amount and combo of apples, though.

Those who are making other suggestions, like butterscotch-apple, can you give the recipes?

maple apple pie

Yes, that’s my vote. Apple crisp/cobbler. Eat it warm with vanilla ice cream.

mixing apple varieties is the only way to go with an apple pie. It really does taste so much better. Caramel apple pie sounds interesting. How are you adding the caramel? I’m picturing a Dutch apple with caramel drizzled on top (maybe with a bit of sea salt to capitalize on the crazy “salted caramel” trend.) I suppose one could also put the caramel in a thin layer in the bottom crust before adding the apples.

Okay, I turned it in a few minutes ago. They’ll announce the winners sometime after 2 pm. Don’t know if mine is the best, but it seems to have been the biggest!

fingers crossed for you.

Good lu . . .errr . . .Break a le . . . ummm . . . break a crust??
