Pigeons

Never mind baby pigeons, did anyone ever see a baby cow with little udders? All calves seem to be male, why is this?

Wrong forum, but…

Did you ever see a baby girl (human) born with developed breasts? Same thing.

Shoving this into General Questions, although it’s been nicely answered.

Well, yeah. Lots of little girls (and boys) have breast buds at birth because of influence from mom’s estrogen. Even some cases of lactation with newborns.

I saw a baby tuba once. It looked sorta like a cornet. My brother played an adolescent tuba called a baritone horn. He showed me a picture of a mutation called a euphonium. It looked like a baritone, but it had sprouted an extra bell.

Back to the Original Question, a young cow is a heifer. Actually, a female of any age that hasn’t borne a calf is also a heifer. Baby bulls that have been relieved of their testicles are steers. If the castration isn’t done until the fellow is grown, he’s called a bullock. If he’s allowed to keep 'em, of course, he’s a bull. What to call them in general? My Aunt Ivy, who raised a lot of them, called them “beeves.”

In all this talk of testiclular tinkering, you may have wondered, and I’ll now tell you; No, beeves do not need to be circumcised ;j to become Kosher beef.
