Pigs...on....stamps! (Henson/Muppet stamps)

Okay, so there’s actually only one pig. And one frog. And one bear, one eagle, one dog, one chicken, one Animal, five humans* (six if you count the real human), and one…whatever.

Yes, the Muppets are on U.S. postage stamps.

I got mine today. They’re very nice looking. I’m not going to use them for postage, just as a collectible. I collect stamps. There are ten stamps of the Muppets, each with a stamp-related quotation from that character and his signature on the back. And a eleventh stamp with a picture of Jim Henson himself. Very nice.

(*I’m guessing that Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker are humans.)

Sure, keep some to collect. But, why would you use plain old ordinary stamps for postage if you can use Muppet stamps?

Here’s a link to a picture of the sheet

Very nice! And an unusual format: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sheet with 11 stamps on it before. It costs just 11 x 37c, or $4.07.

I wish I could get whole pages of one character. I love them all, but Animal is my favorite, with the Swedish Chef running a close second. I think of the latter everytime I make the chocolate mousse icing at work.

I just got a sheet from my local post office. On the back, it has quotes from the various characters depicted, e.g., for Statler & Waldorf:

Is the Swedish Chef saying “Bork, bork, bork!” ?

All of the quotations are stamp or mail-related.

Tres cool. Since I shifted to online bill paying, I’ve really cut down on my stamp usage. But I am going to stop by the Post Office tomorrow, just for these!

I LJed about this the other day, but forgot to get to the post office. Maybe I’ll make time in the morning. It’s very cool.

Didn’t Reagan try to appoint the Swedish Chef to the Supreme Court?

Ya, boot der Senate Democratten Bork Bork Bork!

I think the important question to ask here is if the Miss Piggy stamps can travel airmail.

You better watch yourself, bub, or you’ll be traveling air mail! Hi-YA!

Sure, You just can’t use them to send mail to Tel Aviv.

Or to Cairo, or Karachi, or Tiranë, or Ankara, or Damascus…
Remember the old song “Show Me the Way to Go Home”? In one verse a pig wanders into a Jewish community…well, at least he’s safe there… :stuck_out_tongue:
