Pimple Balls - No dirty thoughts!

Does anyone remember playing steet games with a pimple ball?

Does anyone know what happened to the company that made pimple balls?

Does anyone know what the hell I’m talking about?!

Pimple balls were off-white, rubber, air-filled balls, about the size and weight of a racket ball, but softer. They were covered in pimples and had a star on top and bottom. Many urban street games depended on the pimple ball, as other balls just didn’t cut it. Growing up in Philly, we played game such as box ball, chink, wall-ball, step ball and a thousand other games with pimple balls. Half ball was almost always played with a cut pimple ball, and a good hit would knock the pimple ball inside out and it would really carry.

Help me to solve the pimple ball mystery that has begun to become an urban legend. (I heard the rubber was toxic and that’s why they disappeared - among other things!).

Help!!!

Never heard of the things, but a web search revealed that something called a “pimple ball” is still sold for pets.

e.g. “Ferret pimple ball” can be found here.

I’m not sure these pimple balls are the same as your pimple balls, but this Australian site has 4"($2.80) and 7"($4.20) pimple balls for sale. I presume the prices are in Australian dollars. http://www.collegesports.com.au/playballs.htm
