I mean, think about this. It’s not like it’s the sixteen contestants by themselves on the ship; there’s production crew swarming around as well, in all likelihood outnumbers the contestants at least three to one. Shit, who do you think’s sailing the ship? It can’t just be the contestants; aside from the fact that the insurance company and the lawyers wouldn’t allow it, at one point all the contestants were below deck. It’s not even the only ship there, and in fact it’s pretty likely that it’s not at sea at all. Obviously they didn’t actually cast the guy adrift on the high seas on a little raft, so either it’s a sound stage/in harbor or it’s a bunch of ships sailing not too far from the mainland.
Even a monumental ass is not going to think to himself “Well, of course, if I take these two cheap ass compasses there’s no conceivable way they could get another, and the network will just let these people get lost at sea and allow the entire show to die. Of course that’ll work.” Of course he didn’t really think it would work. It’s absurd. Even the guy on “Joe Millionaire” wasn’t that stupid.
I wasn’t thinking “lost at sea” I was thinking “lost on the missions.”
Last time, they had to row down a river, then get out, then use the compasses to go east on foot. So next time, if they need to go “5 paces to the north,” they’ll have to look into the sky and use the big dipper.
Of course, it’s not like the guy with the compasses said “Knowing which direction is north by the Big Dipper will help you sooo much when you are out on mission” (At least during the part they aired). He seemed to focus on Lost at Sea. 'Course, given the fact that everyone voted for him to be cut adrift, maybe it wouldn’t have mattered.
So they get two more compasses, or the staff take thse compasses back from him. In all the survivor games, you are not allowed to take anything with your that your did not bring. Some dude thinking he is about to be voted off can’t steal the flint. :dubious:
Again; you really think the producers would let the guy walk away with two compasses and allow the show to die? HE really thought that? Nope. Don’t believe it.
Could someone hide the flint (machetes or whatever), bury it, toss it to the sea? Is that contemplated in the rules? We have seen people hide or destroy food.
