I was hoping to see a mutiny – but I think the crew is well aware that it ain’t happening; the officers won’t go for it, then Azymuth will plank Joe Don.
Once again, the treasure hunt was an endurance race. The Black Crew was the first to pick up the rope ladder and get back on the trail, and they never looked back from there – even with Joy slowing them down.
At least Azymuth is finally getting greedy; he and the officers know that they’re sitting pretty, so it’s time to start taking all they believe they can get away with. I wonder, though, at what point someone will decide either (a) they’d rather sabotage Azymuth than win the booty hunt; or (b) bribe someone on the Black Crew into (a).
In fact, I haven’t seen nearly enough bribery going on. Joe Don and Azymuth are sitting on quite a lot of booty (since hit by Joe Don’s big bid), they should be bribing people port & starboard.
The treasure hunts are getting longer, and more complex. I think they should’ve been like that from the beginning.
Should I ever be on a similar show, I want a gear harness: 2 liters of water in a hydration pack, utility knife with line cutter and serrated edge, shears, and a waterproof pouch to keep the map or clue dry. Plus a chamois towel for after the swim or rain.
So much for my amazing intuitive reality TV powers. I really thought a mutiny was going down this week. This was the week of all the episodes to date that a mutiny actually made sense. A mutiny eliminates a strong male competitor and keeps around the two women that everyone seemed to love so much.
If they didn’t mutiny tonight, they never will. It’s absolutely clear that Azmyth, Jay and Ben are in it for themselves, and will pick off the rest until it’s just the three of them. Everybody else should see that and get rid of one of them. I don’t remember the rules, though; do the officers have to go along with the mutiny? If they do, that’s another poorly designed element of the game, and the only chance anyone else has is to win the treasure hunt. If they do, anybody want to guess who gets the three black spots?
$12,000 for the royal pardon? I’m thinking there’s a deal between Nessa (?) and Joe Don to just sell it back-and-forth between the two of them. Or she refunded some of his money when no one was looking.
That’s not a sailors knife. That’s a sailors knife.
I just don’t get why they didn’t sabotage the mission. All it takes is someone sitting down. I cannot foresee anyone objecting to it and certainly not everyone objecting to it. All it takes is one.
Yeah, that’s the only way to guarantee those guys are out of power next time, assuming that the team can’t win unless they’re all together. If the girls really want to put themselves in power they can. Just make a deal, whoever gets put on the captain’s team sabotages it, and the red team will split the money with those who sabotage, and the black spots go to the three amigos.
Mutiny is useless, it will never happen. I think it was Louie or Joe Don that said so this episode. Something like “mutiny is off the table because it has to get past the officers”.
Since the treasure hunts are really just footraces, why do they need to make sure the men & women are distributed equally? There was no sabotage this time, even.
I think Joe Don and Nessa will just sell the pardon back and forth.
Because none of them are looking two steps ahead. The thoughts of the non-officer black crew go: Want Azymuth gone…but if we win we’ll get $$$ so let his team get sabotaged NEXT time.
And, of course, next time never comes, since it’s always this time.
What I wonder is if the producers will do something to shake the pattern up. Since this is a new show, they really don’t have to justify any sudden change, just claim it was always in the plan. So if they say “Now that we’re down to ten, no one can be an officer two weeks in a row” what can the players say?
I agree, it looks like Nessa and Joe Don are simply trading the pardon back and forth. But I think it’ll be easier for the others to disrupt that than stop the 'Terrific Threesome’s steamrolling the rest.
I bet there will never be another season of this. The game’s just too badly thought out.
What has that got to do with what I said?
At some point in the past, while they were filming, some producer realizes that the Terrific Threesome has figured out a way to insure that they are the final three. IOW, that the forecast for the rest of the show is that they will Pagong all the other members in whatever order. Producer realizes how boring this will be, and that the audience will melt away once they see the pattern emerge.
At THAT point in time, any sensible Producer will ‘discover’ some twist in the play book that will prevent this from going on.
The fact that the audience won’t witness this until mumblety months later is irrelevant.
I sure hope for Joe Don that they have something worked out. Otherwise he is out a lot of money. And I really don’t see how this is such a great plan. Everyone knows whose turn it is to have it. You can work around that.
As for season 2. I agree, don’t hold your breath for it.
And the ship’s not going to be in the Caribbean again for a while. I think they’re heading across to Europe next spring, down the coast past Gibraltar to west Africa (Barbary Coast pirates, maybe), across the south Atlantic trade winds to Brazil, and north again back to Nova Scotia.
Expanding on my thought from last night – bribery. The 7 remaining pirates (other than Azymuth, Jay, and Ben) get together and cut a deal: In return for letting the Red Crew win through various forms of traitorous sabotage, the Black Crew pirates will each receive a full share of the booty. Add to the mix: Nessa and Joe Don continue to trade the Pardon back and forth, and the AzJB team gets the black spot. ONE of them will be gone!
Sheesh! Let’s see some more piracy backstabbing, people!
Also – Robot Arm, my concept is more of a diver’s knife. (I personally dive with shears, not a knife, as the tool’s use is to cut through entanglements, and shears can be operated one-handed.)
Yeah, I was thinking that last night, too. I bet someone proposes that next week. Maybe not “sitting down”, but just “go slow”.
What the officers should now, though, is always put only strong players up for ouster. I’m sure we’ll also see some new rules in play now that the crew is getting smaller. They need to get rid of the rule where the officers have to be in on the mutiny-- makes it too hard. Or, they need some rule that creates tension between the captain and the officers.
The simplest rule change that would put the mutiny back in play would be for only one officer to have to support it. You know Jay would go along with a mutiny in a second if he thought he could benefit from it.
I was just happy to finally see Joy cut adrift. Talk about useless! Kendra needs to go next.
I think at a certain point there won’t be black and red crews anymore; it’ll be either individuals or pairs searching for the treasure.
OK, first Assface affects that ridiculous British accent; now he’s taken to pronouncing the ex-captain’s name “ZHO-Don”. He can’t leave quickly enough for me!
Final three in my estimation: Joe Don, Nessa, Jay.
If I were playing this game for fun and was made Captain, I wouldn’t give people titles like “bosun”. I’d make someone the “Jester”, one a “Chambermaid”, maybe make Azymuth the “Chaplain” and make everyone confess their sins to him.
Thank you, Otto, I had this suspicion that I saw I warning that it was moving somewhere, but didn’t catch where–and while missing one or more episodes is harly the end of the world, i" d rather it not be because I didn’t think until after it was over about figurig out where it had moved to.
