Pirates kill Peter Blake?!? (America's Cup captain)

This is bizarre and sad.

It is bizarre and sad. It just goes to show that even in the “enlightened age” we do not overcome the problems that have always been with us, we are given new ones to deal with as well. How else do you explain being killed by pirates in the 21st century. Of course, piracy has been on the rise worldwide for the last 20 odd years, but you’d never think of it on the Amazon, or at least I wouldn’t.

Happy sailing, Peter. Here’s hoping Posiden has laid out a proper welcoming home feast for a favorite son.

It says nothing about the capture of those responsible or about why he’d received threatning mail. Not knowing anything more, you’d have to at least wonder if the two might possibly be related. Wonder why he was killed and nobody else on the boat?

Nevertheless, my heart goes out to his family, friends and countrymen. Tis sad indeed.

Murdered by pirates is good.

Wow… that’s so sad :(. There’s not many NZ sporting icons that I would be so sad about but he always seemed such a nice guy…

Superdude, you really are a git aren’t you? Have you any grasp of the concept that someone died here and it is not funny?

*Primaflora, I don’t think I’m a “git” (whatever the hell one is). I do think it’s sad that someone lost their life. I DO have that much a grasp of the obvious. I was merely trying to add a little levity to the situation. Apparently I failed.

No, it’s not. It’s a sad, stupid, waste of a life. A Princess Bride quote (no matter how appropriate) does not make it funny.

Peter was killed, aparantly, because he’s the only one on the boat who resisted. A shame, as nothing on that boat was worth his life, save for the lives of his crew, and apparantly they were only roughed-up. I won’t presume to know what went through his mind, or why he felt it necessary to resist, but it’s sad to see, in retrospect, that he didn’t need to die.

Peter, I’ll hoist a glass for ye.

SuperDude, really, I think you’d do better to bite your tounge when a nifty quote comes to mind. Yes, you’re smart, yes, you’ve a knack for quotes, but you also have a knack for the wrong quote for the occaision.

Think a minute before posting, and ask yourself:

  • Will this piss off a bunch o’ folks?
  • Do I want to piss off a bunch o’ folks?
    Then post.

Oops, I see that Superdude already explained himself. Please disregard my snarky response above.

[sub]Darn this slow posting[/sub]

Ok Superdude. For me, I’m sad. A good man has died unnecessarily and I don’t think it is appropriate to add levity to a situation which just isn’t funny.

Maybe a bit of thought next time would not go amiss.

Watching non-stop Sir Peter Blake on TV at the moment, this has hit Kiwi land real hard. This guy was a real national hero it’s hard for me to pick a person would mean the same to Americans, perhaps Tiger Woods, but a Tiger Woods who did it for the glory and not the money.
