Pit Bulls (continued)

Oh my!

Oh, for fuck’s sake. Here we go again.

I am not interested in arguing this with cougar, as s/he as seemed to make up his/her mind. That’s fine. Everyone needs a hobby or a cause, I suppose. Completely anecdotal and not meant as any evidence or anything, but I grew up in a neighborhood that had Dobermans, Pit Bulls, Shepherds, Huskies, Malamutes, and Rottweilers. One child was killed. By whom? The family pet Labrador Retriever.

Of course, that doesn’t mean anything. But since cougar likes throwing out pointless anecdote after anecdote, that’s mine.

Confirmation bias much?

Confesssion: I love pit bulls. But don’t get me started on miniature schnauzers…they may not ever maul people, but boy are they annoying. Kind of like posters who get too riled up in Great Debates. Hey, there’s a reason I stay right the hell out of GD.

Confession: I hate pitbulls. But I admit it may have more to do with the owners. Too many seem to have them to perpetuate their tough guy image. Which leads to them be raised the wrong way. The only dog I’ve had to shoot was a pitbull. It was terrorizing the neighborhood. But the owner raised them in outdoor pens and treated them like livestock not pets. Never could prove he was raising them to fight. We foster for the local rescue and pit puppies are very lovable. I would never own one though because I wouldn’t want to have to explain to everyone we meet that it isn’t a killer. I like my idiot lab/beagle mix who runs away from everything. Oh and Yorkshire Terriers are completely evil. /confession

Yeah, a lot of pit bulls aren’t treated very well, unfortunately. And they’re not an easy breed to look after, from what I’ve heard.

In my neighborhood, there’s a bit of the “tough guy” stuff going on, and a bit of the “working dog/watch dog” that gets treated relatively well, too. Not too many get left out in the yard unsupervised for the whole day just to roam around.

It’s been interesting for me to see the increased popularity of pit bulls among my white-collar, college-educated friends. They seem to have become quite popular among this set, as well. Seriously, it seems like every time I see someone on my Facebook getting a dog, it’s a pit or pit mix of some sort.

But it will only be one really long post.

In the immortal words of tomndebb when closing the last trainwreck on this subject taken over by cougar58:

At least cougar58 is successfully taking direction.

What about “Canadian” Holocaust deniers??

The Canadian Holocaust was greatly exaggerated.

There was a Canadian holocaust?

^Thousands of Canadians were treated rudely.

I have no dog in this fight.

Yeah, but if you did, what breed?

Perro de Presa Canario.

Just to be able to say the name when folks asked what kind of dog I had.

Are pit pulls like the canine equivalent of an assault rifle?

Only if it shoots bees out of it’s mouth, I would think.

Killer bees. Regular bees are pretty mild tempered.

C’mon man! We can’t possibly decide without at least 100 links all advocating one side.

DBRF?

The whole OP reads like the Time Cube version for pit bulls.

Dual Band Radio Frequency. Do try and keep up.
