Pit thread for Martin_Hyde {He has been BANNED}

That’s the whole thing, it’s not personal to him, that’s why he’s so willing to sacrifice them in the name of the almighty gun.

Putting a face to the victims of gun violence may make him less cavalier about throwing their lives away.

Yes, and unlike you I take a stand against immorality–you encourage it.

fuck you

If you find it easier to argue against what you wish I had said than to argue against what I’ve actually said, then I won’t stop you.

But it makes you look like an intellectually dishonest douchebag.

Don’t you and Joey P have somewhere you need to be?

There are a number of people in this thread, who seem unhinged, but you two are a couple of bores and your posts in this thread reflect that.

Spare us!

No, and apparently you are not very good at comprehending basic english.

If English is not a primary language for you, then I can understand why you would simply guess at the meaning of the words you chose to respond to.

Heh. Never noticed you before, and doubt I’ll notice your inane “contributions” in the future.

plonk

Reading your contributions, and the way you mangle and distort what others have said, is like some mental game of Twister.

What’s you Good Fella name?

Joey “the broken record” P ?"

Well firstly thanks for clarifying, really.

Because I don’t usually like when a general political discussion just because a cynical game theory type thing on getting elected. But you’re right that politics in the US right now is so broken, that we can’t even start a discussion until the people who do nothing but lie and incite hatred are far away from the levers of power. The US only has one large political party now. I don’t like the Dems, but they are at least normal adults engaging in (what should be) normal politics.

However, even in just the context of what Dems should do to get elected, I disagree with your suggestion. Common sense gun reform is actually the majority position by a long way. The fact that the NRA, FOX and republicans can demonize dems on this shows that there is no position the democrats could take that couldn’t be attacked or misrepresented. What you’re suggesting is that Dems instead should follow the “whatabout” of FOX news rhetoric and talk about cracking down on crime in the inner cities (as opposed to regenerating or investing in inner cities). Potentially alienating people in many of the most solidly blue districts.
It’s a terrible idea, and you can tell that it is by the fact that it is also what many on the Right advise democrats to do.

You what doesn’t cause people to die? Wishing.

You know what does cause people to die? The willingness to trade more deaths for gun rights.

What you said here:

“I also firmly want it understood—I am 100% willing to trade more deaths for gun rights.“

Is a tacit admission that you help facilitate murders.

Bullshit. You’ve made it abundantly clear that you prioritize your gun fetish over ANY amount of gun deaths, including children (as long as you don’t know them)

wrong thread…

I will dub you “white knight:”

Wishing for someone to die is as useful as the thoughts and prayers @Martin_Hyde gives the gun murder victims that is he is willing to accept for his gun rights.

You cannot translate majority support for a position and just assume that means it helps you win elections if you support it. The people who support gun control already vote democratic - there’s very little to gain in terms of support by bring it up as a rallying issue. But it’s an issue that a lot of people are really passionate about, and while it’s true that most of them will vote reliably republican, the base of people who oppose gun control is much wider than you think. It’s not just republicans - there are lots of democrats that are pro-gun and who are alienated by focusing on gun control. Without a doubt, running on gun control as a major part of your platform is a vote loser for the democrats and a vote getter for the GOP.

There are a whole huge range of issues which are less divisive which are winning issues for the democratic party which are, quite frankly, orders of magnitude more important than the gun issue anyway. Climate change, access to health care, wealth inequality, rent prices, take your pick.

I already wrote about it here, but basically, the republicans are begging you to make gun control an issue in the 2022 election. It’s the best thing you could do for them.

I didn’t say that though. I pointed out that the fact that supporting a majority opinion can be demonized shows that it’s pointless trying to avoid republican attacks by shifting the overton window.
I’m not saying gun control should necessarily be a primary campaign issue.

Enough of this “You can’t do that-it won’t work!” that we get constantly. What WILL work?

The folks you are replying to are literally mentally ill. Their life work is disingenuously manufacturing drama for entertainment.
