I am very curious about that myself. He logged in earlier this morning so he has certainly read the evidence presented. An 18 year Doper exposed.
I am eagerly awaiting what I am sure will be a reasonable explanation for all of this.

I don’t know… Does the 8th amendment apply when the punishment is inflicted on someone other than the prisoner? Because if so, I think we’d have a pretty good case that our rights are being violated.

Are you under the impression that people can’t read what you wrote? I read your reply before LHOD posted. You told LHOD that his thread was beneath you, not worthy of discussion. That’s threadshitting.
And you have brought up AA many times before. It’s a common conservative gotcha card to claim that liberals are also bigoted.
I also will point out that you’re clearly engaging dishonestly. Quoting a single line from a post, debunking it, then saying that somehow makes my entire post an exaggeration. You avoided all of the actual big accusations.
I really am starting to think you’re just a chronically dishonest person. You think it’s okay to say whatever to win arguments. And the reason you got mad at LHOD is that he didn’t let you change the argument. Hence you had to get in those parting swipes.
You’d think, if you were of decent intelligence, you’d at least not call attention to yourself. You’re directly inviting people to dig up everything on you.
I suspect that the gross inconsistencies exposed upthread by our resident sleuth has finished him off for good, at least in this thread.
I say this not to be vindictive, but because nothing pisses me off more than posters who are liars and frauds. We take them at their word as a natural and essential part of human discourse, and when they turn out to be liars, it feels like a betrayal of trust. It also means that the veracity of everything they have ever written, or ever will write, is suspect and therefore worthless.
If – to take a leap into a wild hypothetical – there were a rational explanation for these glaring inconsistencies, anyone who has expended as much effort as Martin_Hyde has to try to defend himself in this thread would surely be here in a flash to provide it. The fact that he has not speaks volumes.

Ehh. Or he might have wised up to the fact that he’s not EVER going to get everybody to admit that their criticisms of him are baseless, and that he’s as great a guy as he keeps telling us he is.
I’ve never been Pitted (although I have read people saying some pretty mean things about me in the SnarkPit on the Giraffe boards). It would never even occur to me to show up and register my objections to their characterizations. It’s like agreeing to get on the phone with Dr. Laura Schlesinger so she can bully you on the radio.
I do hope the reference is still intelligible, as horribly dated as it is.
But there is a big difference between opinion-based criticism (“CairoCarol’s avatar is silly and her posts aren’t very insightful”) and accusations of dishonest posting (“CairoCarol claims to have lived in Jakarta, but her story doesn’t add up”).
Yes, I’d most likely ignore the former. I would vigorously defend myself in the case of the latter, as I have represented biographical facts about me accurately and could explain/defend myself with no difficulty, and I would not like to be accused of lying.
If, however, I had exaggerated/invented large parts of my story, and one or more sharp-eyed posters called me out on the inconsistencies, I might feel I had no choice but to slink away.
Much of what is now being said about Martin_Hyde seems to fall into the latter category. Posters can draw their own conclusions about what his future posts, or lack thereof, mean.
Actually I think if he doesn’t explain himself, no one will take him seriously again.

If he’s still posting in a week, I’ll just put him right back on ignore. I would encourage others to do the same. I had already started to suspect bad faith on his part in a number of discussions, but here now I don’t think I could personally ever be confident he is posting in good faith again.
I’m sure he will be. He’s clearly taking the “pretend the posts calling out my lying liar lies don’t exist and hope people forget” tactic.

I didn’t care overly much about @Martin_Hyde and his posts one way or the other prior to these revelations. But now I’m intrigued by the schadenfreude that will come out of them. Assuming he ever returns to this thread and acknowledges that they exist.
