Retired Army, was the whole of my early life, retired as a full bird Colonel which was essentially the goal I had when I decided to go through the process of getting nominated to West Point.

I retired from the Army; I had always wanted to be more involved in local politics. I had been active in the Republican party unit committees for my home area, but there were limits to how involved I could be due to regulations about active-duty service members and partisan politics (also just the fact I would sometimes be moved away for years at a time presented logistical barriers to greater involvement); school board was a way to get involved and intersected with some of my interests. I was elected two times and then retired because about halfway through my second term I had entered into a business partnership which I still manage, and that significantly reduced my free time for political activity and being involved in an elected board + running the business were just more time than I wanted to invest away from leisure activities.

Well now hold on, Martin… you say there you were elected twice to the school board, but only after you got out of the Army (which you agree was in the early 2000s, right?)

All of my fellow (school board) members were retired professionals who cared about educational quality. A lot of deference was given to the Superintendant, who is the primary educator we as the board had direct interactions with on a regular basis. If the Superintendant said we needed to approve more teaching positions, or such we generally deferred to him–we certainly would look at his ideas in depth, but it was rare we went against the Superintendant (even though technically his contract was approved by us, and we could decline to renew his contract or even dismiss him in some circumstances.)

Anyway, on the subject of MH’s greatest hits, pulling from one of the posts I linked to earlier, I would just like to highlight what I think perfectly captures who MH really is:

The fact of the matter is I have little respect for most poor people. Most of them are there simply because they are chronically stupid and bad decision makers. Education is offered to many people back home that I know who are on welfare. Many cousins of mine with 5+ kids are milking the gov’t for all they are worth, despite the fact I know they could easily have turned out differently if not for apathy towards life.

Despite my complete disrespect for the majority of poor people, their chronic poverty and child-rearing is a drain on the economy.

Not that I think he’s poor (no opinion one way or the other, and it doesn’t really matter), but I think what he says about other people there should tell us all we need to know about him.

Some of you might also be curious to know that MH was actually did some teaching himself (or so he’s said, I mean), but chose not to mention it for some reason.

Firstly I graduated from the USMA, have a masters from UVA, and have taught classes at three different major universities and several smaller colleges.

From my cursory review of MH’s posts related to USMA, West Point, the Army, and purported school board service, “he strikes me as unimpressive and highly likely to have… [just made shit up about himself] for the same reason most people… [make shit up about themselves on the internet]–lack of ability to do anything more important or rewarding.”
