But we know exactly how many of each type of plane exists, and we know which type of plane is involved in every accident. There is no misidentification, and there’s no such thing as a ‘mixed-breed’ plane. So it’s trivially easy to calculate accident rates per plane type. Not so with dog bites. Analogy fail.
No, I’ve never said they’re all wrong. You obviouisly have a difficult time reading. I have only asked for the methodology used in dtermining breed. It’s pretty sad that you have asked for something that stupid a “gadzillion” times. That says a lot about your critical thinking skills.
There are lots of media reports about the link between autism and immunization. Your logic is that we should take them all on their word. That’s absurd.
And I have provided the legal definition a quadzillion times.
So have the cities that have perfected the model definition for breed specific legislation, which have withstood numerous Appellate, Superior, and Federal Court challenges:
**WHEREAS, the breeds of dogs known as “pit bulls” include any American Pit Bull
Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or any dog displaying the majority of physical traits of any one or more of the above breeds, or any dog exhibiting those distinguishing characteristics which substantially conform to the standards established by the American Kennel Club or United Kennel Club for any of the above breeds; The A.K.C. and U.K.C. standards for the above breeds are on file in the office of the City Clerk at City Clerk
**
Please stop posting nonsense. You obviously can’t follow the simplest of questions if you think this is an appropriate response to mine.
Stick to what you know: pages upon pages of meaningless anecdotes.
Please stop calling the verbatim basis of Miami and Denver and hundreds of others cities BSL legislation “nonsense” and /or meaningless anecdotes.
You asked how pit bulls are ID’d, and I gave it to you, verbatim. It is working. And in fact it has held up to appeals and challenges in Appellate, Superior and Federal Courts.
Go tell Denver and Miami and the Federal Courts you feel it is nonsense and anecdotal. Its been tried before.
Bring a dog you think may or may not be a pit bull. Denver & Miami officials will render a decision - since you and others here find it such as mystery. Both cities have 20 years experience, and the citizens in Miami like it so well, so voted to keep it, verbatim, in a landslide 66% (2/3rd) margin at the voting booths last year.
In Denver a 3 person “pit bull evaluation team” determines if a dog is a pit bull under the ordinance. Each team member marks various characteristics listed on a pit bull evaluation form.
There is your how.
So in other words, it’s arbitrary.
Ironically, a google search for “Denver pit bull evaluation team” brings up tons of reports of a prominent incident wherein said team identified a boxer mutt as a pit bull and were overruled by an appeal. Quotes from the members of the team include “[he] cannot recite the characteristics of the breed off the top of [his] head”.
Airline pilots can’t roll off the checklist of things to do when landing a plane off the top of their head. In fact, they are so incompetent that they have to go through a physical check list! Clearly incompetent.
Surprisingly, there are also lots of media reports saying the link between autism and immunization is bullshit.
What you’ve failed to provide so far: cites saying that dogs involved in fatal attacks are routinely incorrectly identified as pits. It ain’t rocket science.
So yeah, until you provide some media reports to the contrary…ball’s in your court kiddo.
Good point. Pits could be unbelievably common. Now, that seems odd, seeing as how you all have your panties in a wad about the ‘media bias’ and how they portray these sweet little doggies as ‘land sharks’. Surely such media coverage would reduce the popularity of the breed, -except- among the population of potential dog owners that specifically wants to own a land shark. In which case, I’m going to give the shitty dog and his shitty owner a wide berth.
Or maybe they’re unbelievably uncommon. In which case, relatively speaking, they’re unbelievably dangerous. In which case, I’m going to give the shitty dog and the shitty owner a wide berth.
Or maybe they’re not significantly more or less popular than other breeds. In which case we look at the numbers and see that one particular type of dog is involved in the vast majority of cases where people are chewed to death, with nary a cite for any such killer dog being incorrectly identified. In which case we conclude that the dog is in fact more dangerous that other types of digs, and I’ll give that shitty dog type and that shitty owner a wide berth.
No, it isn’t. You’re the one who is quite stupidly claiming that newspaper reports with no methodolgy behind them should be used as the basis of a scientific study. The ball hasn’t made it even close to my side of the court yet. The burden of proof remains with you until you can demonstrate the proper methodology behind the idenification of these breeds. Something more than “a reporter said so”.
Also, examples of incorrectly identified pits have been shown to you multiple times in this thread, so I’m quite confused about why you continue to ask. I can only assume it has something to do with the reading comrehension issues you’ve displayed so far.
Go back to square one. He specifically asked for evidence that the pit bulls accused of FATAL attacks on humans were misidentified.
Start with the ones in 2013.
You have a target rich year, so it should be easy. The first 4 months were 100% by pit bulls that were captured, and the owners to this day, never denied they were anything but.
Ditto for the remaining 90% of the 19 fatals this year
Go
Were those breeds determined by visual identification, which some studies show to have less than a 40% accuracy rate, or DNA testing?
That puts you and police officers with one up on “people in dog-related professions and services.”
http://nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/breed-identification-1/
In a second paper published in 2013, Dr. Voith and her colleagues surveyed more than 900 people in dog-related professions and services and showed that respondents frequently disagreed with each other when making visual breed identifications of the same dog, and that their opinions may or may not have correlated with DNA breed analysis.More than 70% of the study participants reported that now or at one time, their breed descriptors were used in record keeping. The results of the survey call into question the validity of a variety of data that has been collected over the decades pertaining to breed identification of dogs.
Perhaps you and the POs should hire out as consultants for people in "dog-related professions.
Those studies basically show visual breed identification to be totally unreliable, even if performed by dog-related professionals.
Here is the actual 2011 report, as published. It demonstrates that a total of 3 deaths from that year actually were the result of the 2 breeds referred to as pit bulls. You want incorrect reporting by the media on dog-related deaths, have a ball with that report.
Thank you, I in fact had a ball with this report.
First, more than 2 breeds make up the pit bull

Second, "a total of 3 deaths from that year (2011) actually were a result (of pit bulls).
My apologies for taking so long to reply. I was LFMAO the past 48 hours after reading that claim.
What a crock of fecal matter.
This NCRC (national Canine research Council) report is full of it.
First, the NCRC is not a US government endorsed organization, despite its name – . In fact, the NCRC was founded by Karen DeLise, a pit bull owner/ defender, who authored a book called “The Pit Bull Placebo”. Her only credentials were as a Vet Tech. In her book, she faults USA police for “riding into town, with both guns blazing, at anything that resembles a pit bull”.
Let’s examine what the NCRC claims:
The NCRC claims they were able to secure photos of the dogs alleged to be pit bulls, yet they do not include them in their report !!!
In 18 of the pit bull fatal attacks, that you incorrectly claim the NCRC states were actually not pit bulls, that isn’t what the NRCR says at all. It says, in 18 line item pit bull related fatalies, verbatim, that they “were unable to obtain any evidence or documentation from the owner or authorities”, or that they obtained photos of the dogs & “ submitted the photographs to NCRC’s expert advisor who concluded the breed(s) of the dogs could not be reasonably determined from the photo”
Let me make this perfectly clear: If the NCRC did not obtain photos or documents, or in cases where they did obtains photos of the dogs, but the NCRC “could not reasonably determine the breed from the photo” - THAT DOES NOT MEAN THE DOGS WERE NOT PIT BULLS !" In fact, in each case, they specifically say they could not determine ANY breed, which means they could not rule out it was a PIT BULL

Translation “B” : the pro pit bull group NCRC was unable to identify a dog as being either a pit bull, or not a pit bull. Interesting, being that they force feed a 12 photo line-up of dogs and criticize the public for not being able to ID which is a pit, and which is not. Equally suspect is the fact that the NCRC did not release the photos they allegedly possess, in the NCRC report.

BONUS:
The NCRC claims a man, Virgil Cantrell, reported killed by a pit bull, was actually confirmed to be an American Bulldog.
Say What?
Virtually every chronological report of the fatal attack, and the coverage of the latter felony charges and finally the conviction of pit bull owners Rickey Lynn Grant and his wife, Lisa Kay Bloxham-Grant, (both were convicted with ownership of a dangerous dog causing the death of a person) state it was a pit bull. In fact, if you search “Virgil Cantrell” + “bulldog” you find nothing.
In 15 of the above fatal pit bull attacks, the NCRC (National Canine Research Council) claims they were able to obtain photos of the dog. Their verbatim conclusionon 15 cases:
The dog was reported to be a “pit bull” dog .” NCRC was unable to obtain any evidence or documentation from the owner or authorities to substantiate the breed of dog. NCRC did obtain photographs of the dog. The photographs were submitted to NCRC’s expert advisor who concluded that the breed of the dog could not be reasonably determined from the photographs.”
In 3 other cases of pit bull fatal attacks where the NCRC could obtain no further evidence (photos or breed papers) , the NCRC verbatim conclusion is:
“NCRC was unable to obtain any evidence or documentation from the owner or authorities that substantiate the breed(s) of the dog”
Yet, SMDB member Labrador Deceiver (very appropriate moniker) claims this means only 3 fatals in 2011 were done by pit bulls !!!
Also, note that he, and others here in denial of pit bulls, constantly ask for proof. yet they take the NCRC article as bible, despite the fact that the NCRC report only states they have photos, but could not determine the breed was OR WAS NOT a pit bull !!
Why didn’t they publish the photos?
Why are pit bull deniers constantly referencing the pro pit bull web page that shows 12 random photos, of pit bull looking dogs, and polling the general public to " find the pit bull" (note that another SDMB member here called them out for using an very young, undeveloped pit bull, and further, using a blurry side view - saying "if you have to be dishonest to make your point, you have failed).
Ever more concerning, how did Lab Deceiver interpret the NCRC own report of 15 cases of obtaining photos, but not being able to ID or not ID them as pit bulls, to meaning they were definitely not pit bulls?
How did Lab Deceiver translate the 3 reports where the NCRC said they could obtain no further evidence from authorities or the owners (photos or breed papers) as meaning they were definitely not pit bulls?

Breaking news:
In 2011, a woman had a neighbors pit bull enter her house as she slept, and badly maul her.
Today, a jury awarded her 2.2 million, with 42% from Pierce County, the rest from the pit bulls owners.
http://www.thenewstribune.com/2013/08/13/2729219/verdict-in-pitbull-attack-on-gig.html
This flies in the face of pit bull apologists who claim that pit bull bans are too expensive to manage. Just one non-fatal pit bull attack cost this county $1 million, because they failed to protect the victim from pit bulls based on previous complaints.
Get this: the sleeping victim, in her own home, that the pit bulls entered (and also killed on of her dogs) was found 1% liable as she should have known that Animal Control was known to look the other way regarding pit bulls.
