Pitting asshole professors who lock the door

Paying tuition for receiving information is comparable to buying a ticket to see a Broadway play. In that instance the information is entertainment.

Printed on the ticket may be a statement that says no one will be admitted after the show starts until the intermission.

Too bad if you got a flat tire, or you got stuck in traffic, or you were simply taking your time. Just because you paid doesn’t give you authority over the event. The theatre is within its rights to bar you from the performance. It disturbs the other patrons and can affect the performers as well.

As a college student, I hate to join the crowd and tell you you should have been there on time. If I were in any classes this semester where I really had to pay attention, I would want the professor to lock the door.

I don’t know the last time I was late to a class… we have 10 minutes, at least, between classes, and I’d assume your school does too.

This is what I plan to do. I know it’s silly to take it personally but I’ve been generally upset about it since Tuesday and I know there’s nothing to be gained by holding a grudge. I’ll continue to think the policy is excessive, and I’ll still think that the teacher is a jackass for shutting the door in my face, but I can make it a point to get to class early enough not to be locked out and hopefully get through the semester with minimal conflict.

I agree that being on time is very important and as a student I always make sure I am there at LEAST 5mins before class starts. However I’d also like to point out that it’s not uncommon for professors to go over their timeslot by a few mins causing the student to have to ‘catch up’ to the next class.

In many instances we have 10 mins to get from one class to the other. In some instances we have to rush across campus so being at the next class early is physically impossible unless all the profs play by the rules and end class at exactly the right time. That’s not to say that this was the case with the OP but let’s not pretend all professors are masters of keeping time. A few profs will even get angry when students stand up to leave class because they have to be somewhere else when the class is supposed to be over (“SIT DOWN! You do not leave until I dismiss you!”).

<Snrk!>

I know it’s already been said, but I am having that problem this semester. Big campus, 10 minutes to get to classes on far sides of campus from each other. 3 classes in a row like that. But the first two professors always lecture over! I have only been late to a class once becuase of that, but I have had to walk out and miss the very end of a lecture becuase she had already gone 5 min over, and I need a bare min of 5 min to run to class. So, if I had a professor who locked the door I would probably be screwed. It’s petty ridiculous behavior, and I have never had a professor who did that.

On the other hand, people who are late for class habitually deserve to have chalk pelted at them. That would never happen, becuase here in SoCal, the professor never walks in until right on time or a minute late.

Bicycle, my boy.

Good idea.

Nothing says maturity better than a noisy tantrum.
