Wanna bet?
Ah, that fits. I was going to mention that TubaDiva herself offered to let me have a voluntary banning back in the worst days. So it makes sense.
The only time I’ve seen someone get a permaban when asking for it was when they were basically saying that they would not follow the rules unless they were banned.
Since the OP has had his posting privileges suspended, at his request, I’m closing this thread.
And now that he’s back, so is the thread.
Thank you.
Is it really too much to ask for people to just ignore the bongwater-flavored drool he ladles onto the board? He contributes nothing positive and randomizes discussions with his ignorant nonsense. Even when someone manages to excavate an interesting topic from one of his brain-fog threads, he reliably returns and steers the conversation hard back into the ditch of stupidity.
He can babble to himself. Just let it sink into obscurity. He isn’t worth the effort.
And back with the same MO of uncited claims, uncited because he knows they are crank sources.
@Cervaise - what I will say about this ignoramus is that his threads sometimes start interesting conversations, and I respond in that spirit if I think the general topic is interesting. I hold out no hope of fighting his ignorance, but ignorance (including my own) may nevertheless be fought.
Y’all are just jealous because your semen crosses your brain blood barrier before it is reabsorbed.
@Riemann: This. Once he doubles down a time or three in an irritated tone I bail. But until then we can all have some fun. Reminds me of the drunk or stoned late night college dorm speculations of my youth.
The problem is that he’s still having them60+ years later. He claims to be a microdosing drug user. Which is certainly his right; no judgment expressed or implied here. Now and again I think he switches to megadoses or else he gets some really bad stuff.
Now that’s a sexual position I’d pay money to see. I think.
I would agree except that he consistently returns to “course correct” the thread away from the interesting conversation that arose despite the setting and back toward the errant idiocy that inexplicably fascinates him.
If he would just drop his laughable OPs and then leave them untouched to evolve into something productive, that would be one thing. But that’s not what happens. He actively fights efforts to transform his useless drivel into something positive.
Ugh. I was doing a happy dance about Sam_Stone leaving and yet HB comes back? -checks profile- Lucky, I didn’t remove him from ignore forever just because he had requested the suspension. Have fun playing with them, I think it’s giving him what he wants/needs and not in a good way.
And Honeybadger has opened an ATMB thread claiming to be mystified why his “I have a question” threads are such trainwrecks. What disingenuous bollocks.
I had to stop myself from replying to that thread since it is not in The BBQ Pit after all. The reason they get the grief they get is because their view of science and research is, “I feel it is so”. And when queried on that or shown the facts of the matter, they get, shall we say, bristly.
I hope the mods are okay with my ATMB reply. I’m not sure where you could ask the question “what’s wrong with my posting” other than ATMB. Given that he asked, I think I’m allowed to answer why I think his posting MO is problematic if I explain why?
In my humble non-moderator opinion, I think the only problematic part of your response to HBDC was the word stubbornly. The rest of it was clearly grounded in fact and described posts, not poster.
Yeah, I had exactly the same thought about using that word when I just reread it. “Persistently” would have been a more objective word. To my credit, there are about 30 other words that I did avoid using.
I think Expasno’s reply hit it on the head. There was nothing at all in that post that described the poster. It was all about post.
For the last few years, I’ve had to teach my students how to take a test called “Reading and Viewing”. The viewing part of the test is some kind of image (cartoon, photo, graph, etc.). The first question is always “What do you see?” This question asks for factual observation, nothing else, just what is present in the image. The next question or questions then ask the student to interpret the image. When the students are introduced to this task, invariably they answer the “What do you see” question with their interpretation. They jump the gun, skip the first step. Honestly, I think that’s only natural and that’s why we have to teach that out of them, so to speak.
HBDC seems to be stuck in that mode, not realizing that you can describe what you’ve noticed and then ask for explanations based on actual research. They just seem to think that what they’ve noticed or believe they’ve seen is the scientific fact or explanation and are, I guess, looking for some credible other source to say, “Yep, that’s so.” Then they get offended when it doesn’t happen.
It’s not like we haven’t seen any posters like that on this board before. IME, it’s usually one of the religious thumper types. That does not mean I’m right about that; just that’s what I think, likely based on the types of posts I’m prone to peruse. Plus, I don’t usually get that vibe from HBDC.
I think HBDC has the stereotypical crank mindset of imagining that he can think about something, anything, and (without doing any hard work) provide new and valuable insight. He’s not asking questions, he has what he thinks is some fabuolous idea and he wants people to say “gosh, that’s brilliant, I had never though about it that way before”.
So he’s only ever jumping on anything that he thinks is confirmation of his genius, he just ignores anything else that’s posted. That’s why (in additional to sheer ignorance and stupidity) he has zero discrimination about sources, he gravitates to crank pseudoscience that functions in the same way. And that’s why he won’t post cites, his claimed humility about wanting his ignorance fought is bollocks, it’s all about ego, about confirmation, it’s certainly not about having his dubious sources exposed for what they are.
I have been well aware in all of our interactions that you think this. I can assure you I don’t. In reeal life and on message boards I often do make connections others don’t make jut to test them. I think if you didn’t assume these motives our interactions would go smoother. In most cases I am actually expecting and even hoping to hear that someone else has been researching this very thing. When that happens it makes me feel good I readily admit.
