Pitting Honeybadger

While I agree, I feel this is more the mods putting to paper (electrons) as it were that HBDC has been given all the rope now. Official notice as it were. So that when he once again tries to sidle into, or directly spew his BS, the mods can finally rid us of the menace.

Well, that’s noose to me.

Keep up with puns like that and there’s a place for you right next to him.

Are you kidding? Expel every punster on the Dope and the joint would be deserted.

ISWYDT

You don’t want to be kept hanging, do you?

Sigh… after a suspension, he’s back. That’s not the problem, it’s that he’s banging one of his same old drums: his “certainty” that someone’s behavior can change their genes. Or, in his most recent post, “epi genetics” [sic].

All those brains involved in that thread, and I’m surprised Lamarckism hasn’t been mentioned. The “epigentics” bit is a cover for that theory debunked conclusively 2 centuries ago but rearing its ugly head again via a poster who is not only stupid but also proudly and profoundly ignorant

Not quite on topic:

I kind of like Lamarckism in a failrly childish way. I like the idea that giraffes grew their long necks through stretching. A bit like the Rudyard Kipling story about how the elephant got his trunk

I know, yes, it is nonsensical, but still…

Just so

“Fighting The Nonsensical Since 1973”

I see what you did there.

I LOL’d IRL.

Well, behaviour can’t change your genes, but it can change the way in which they are expressed. Epigenetics is a thing, and describes how some learned behaviours seem to be heritable. That could even include some effect on domestication.

It seems that Honeybadger’s error was to say that it causes your genes to change. But directionally he’s right that some learned behaviours appear to be passed on to new generations. The level of snark aimed at him over that small error is not called for, but an example of how the people disliked on this board get nitpicked and harassed over the smallest errors.

If you want to fight ignorance, patiently explaining the difference between RNA and DNA, and gene expression vs genetic change might work a lot better than, “nyuk nyuk, you are stupid!”

You’d have a point if this was a one time thing. We all make mistakes and often dig our heels in from time to time. But this pit thread is coming up on it’s five year anniversary. That doesn’t happen because of a “small error”.

That’s like telling someone they’re wrong for calling the cops/landlord on their neighbor because they’ve been outside revving the engine on their muscle car for the last three hours and you’d like to sleep, while dismissing the fact that they’ve been a problem neighbor for the last 20 years, this just happens to be the most recent incident.

Edit: More importantly, why do you think people dislike him in the first place? If you’re suggesting posters are harassing him because they dislike him, they likely have a reason for disliking him which led to him being harassed over mistake. Yes, sometimes people overreact, but sometimes that’s because they’re finally fed up and need to vent.

Give it a shot, try to patently explain the difference to him and see how that works out for you. See if you get an answer other than “I was just asking questions” or “well, I had a cite, but I can’t find it anymore”.
800+ post pit threads don’t happen because a few people are pissy about a single “small error”.

I think each post should stand on its own, and people shouldn’t get nitpicked and harassed when they post reasonable things because of their ‘rep’. Because that seems to be more a case of trying to simply drive them off the board.

Maybe the people who flame out wouldn’t be like that if they didn’t get hounded so much on this board. Gentle corrections tend to work better than “you’re stupid! Go away!”

Gentle reminder: you’re telling this to someone who has a 1,900+ post pit thread about them and their problem with factual errors.

How to say ‘I haven’t read Honeybadger threads!’ without saying it.

He’s not talking about Honeybadger.

Yes, completely ignore that he think spinal fluid and seminal fluid are the same thing the next time he want to talk about his inane ‘’‘’‘theories’‘’‘’ about genetics and reproduction.
