Its hard to find Amish people blowing themselves yelling “Amishism akbar” all over the place and hating our allies, and forming campus groups and PACs dedicated to doing so.
I bet if the same women wore a nice homburg, or trilby, or bowler, or porkpie, or Abraham Lincoln style stovepipe, conservatives would object to that, too.
It’s just as hard to find the patriotic parents of American heroes, like Mr. and Mrs. Khizr Khan, do so.
Nothing unAmerican about scarves on heads. Americans have been wrapping their heads since the revolution.
The idea that American-ness demands that your spouse not display a symbol of her belief. Where does that come from? What other faiths have been subject to such a rule?
The fundamental characteristic of American-ness is that we get to choose how to or how not to express ourselves.
It might not even be about religious belief, at least directly. She might just feel more comfortable with a headscarf than without.
The man is afraid of a scarf!
::: shakes head sadly and walks away :::
I consider hating someone for their religion a failure to assimilate and integrate with American values and world view.
Man, those hijab-wearing women and their anti-Americanism. Grinds my gears something fierce, it does.
I’m curious, DerekMichaels00. Do you believe a Sikh man wearing a turban or a Jewish man wearing a yarmulke are equally unintegrated? Do you find these three choices in headgear equally upsetting?
So, uh, how’s that pitting going, Derek?
Don’t even try it. DerekeMichaels00 has developed a partriot purity test that even Captain Humayun Khan can’t pass posthumously.
Yes, I was going to ask about Orthodox Jews. Many American Orthodox wear clothing and head coverings that are very different from mainstream American clothing. Are they not integrating? Is this something to be criticized and discouraged?
SpoilerVirgin, who wears a headscarf almost every day for warmth, not religion.
But they’re (presumably) not anti-Israel. In DerekMichaels00’s book, being “integrated” as an American is all about being pro-Israel. Head coverings are only un-American when they’re worn by people who are not pro-Israel.
It’s very logical, if you hold it at a 75-degree angle and cross your eyes to juuust the right amount when looking at it.
My mom used to wear a headscarf but she doesn’t any more so apparently she’s been ‘assimilated’ or ‘integrated’ or whatever. By who I do not know since she’s always been a Lutheran.
