pitting Lisa Guerrero

This seems to reflect the general critical consensus on new Monday Night Football sideline reporter Lisa Guerrero. Synopsis: she has two pretty large, er, talents, but there ain’t a whole lot more going on up there. This women is an absolute embarrassment to the world of sports journalism. She makes past sideline disasters like Eric Dickerson look postively erudite. As someone I was discussing this with pointed out, why doesn’t ABC just do close-up shots of the cheerleaders and save this dimwit’s salary…

I had you up until “Eric Dickerson”.

I agree with you. While watching the Redskins/Jets and Eagles/Bucs, I kept trying to remind myself that she’s supposed to be a sideline reporter … but she’s not quite there yet.

Pam Oliver? Quality female sideline reporter.
Lesley Visser? Quality female sideline reporter.
Melissa Stark? Quality female sideline reporter.

Lisa Guerrero? Not a quality female sideline reporter.

I would like to see a quality female color commentator in the booth with Al Michaels and John Madden. I would not like to see a token woman tossed in there while we’re spoonfed the line that it’s because 40% of the MNF audience is composed of women.

Pull the other one, it’s got bells on it; the average fan is discerning enough to know when they’re being pandered to.

Sideline reporters are fairly useless anyway. When was the last time you ever heard one make an insightful statement? Might as well make them eye candy.

The only thing sideline reporters are really good for is injury reports and maybe eavesdropping on sideline squabbles.

Guerrero is obviously just there to be eye candy (and so was Melissa Stark) and she uses notes which make her look even more unprofessional. They could at least put her in some more revealing outfits. Trick her out like a stripper. It would be more honest and more watchable.

I was going to say that I didn’t know what was a worse addition to NFL broadcasts, Lisa Guerrero or Rush Limbaugh but that question answers itself. Limbaugh is just an annoying windbag with no business in an ESPN studio. Guerrero at least looks good.

I used to like Madden, but he really annoyed me in the Jets-'Skins game. He was telling some story, the 'Skins (I think) ran some kind of pass play and gained like 50 yards, and he just kept rambling on and on, not stopping once to let Al Michaels tell us what happened.

And sideline reporters are usually useless.

Why do you need Michaels to tell you what happened when you just watched it?

Touche.

Because I wanted to know how they broke a 50 yard pass play when they hadn’t done shit all night. Did the coverage break down? Did the reciever get lucky? Who WAS that speeding WR, anyway? Etc.

And with only minor modification, you’ve perfectly described John Madden, too!

I had missed this:

Classic!

Since the yum-yum Melissa Stark is not around anymore, I would gladly trade Guerrerro’s waste-of-face time for a few more precious seconds of leering cheerleader footage.

Agree completely with RTA - and I’m a CHICK! Well, OK, I don’t agree completely, because I personally think Melissa Stark was too stupid to even be useless, but I agree with the rest of it. So … guess I’m with Diogenes on this one.

Personally, I think sideline reporters are a waste of oxygen, but if they insist on having them, why not get someone who’s actually done a tour of duty on a sideline? They make all those bozos “analysts” instead - and they usually suck ass.

As a new-to-football person, I’m glad to see that my observations weren’t completely off.

Heard during the games this Sunday…

me: Ah. I guess she’s the babe-appeal chick?
lno: *sideline reporter *

… watch more of the game… she appears again… I chuckle, noticing (again) the “two talents” someone mentionned above…

me: token babe appeal chick?
lno: *sideline reporter *

… watch more of the game… she appears again… I chuckle some more

me: sideline reporter glorified cheerleader token babe appeal chick?
lno: yep.

I don’t know. I still think that it would make more sense to just hear Madden and Michaels talk for a few extra seconds while they show some hot cheerleader.

I don’t really have a problem with sideline reporters, but like any other journalist, they really better know their stuff. Now, the idjit who was sideline reporting for ESPN radio for Monday night’s game was kind of overbearing, because he was doing less reporting and more analysis, which the guys in the booth are supposed to do.

Does she have ANY credentials besides having been the token hot chick on sports shows? Shirley there are some more qualified female journalists out there that also qualify as eye candy. She must be doing somebody.

Au contraire! If she were butt-ugly and a poor sideline reporter, then she’d be doing someone. But her main appeal is her looks, and the wise producer knows guys like hot women.

She had previously done the Vanna White role on a short-lived ESPN sports trivia game show. Prior to that, much prior in fact, she had organized the New England Patriots’ first cheerleading program, while dating Hugh Millen (Bledsoe’s predecessor as QB). Guerrero is actually her mother’s name, btw - she dropped the anglo stage name for marketing reasons.

Guess this either depends on the guy, or the context. My husband and I were watching MNF the other night, and after the third or fourth time she was on, my husband made the following comment:

“What the hell is the deal with this girl? She can’t find her own tits with both hands and a flashlight. If I was into dumb broads I’d be watching that ‘Nick and Jessica’ show!”

He’s so right. At least, I think so. In any event, we always leave the room for more drinks or cigarettes whenever she comes on.
