Jeez, Lib, that was really uncalled for. Guinastasia has OCD, and therefore cannot be held responsible for her actions, much like a small child or animal. Why don’t you try to show some compassion for someone who’s shouldering the burdens of the world?
There may be some wisdom to what liberaltarian has to say, even if we must really search for it. For some reason Mr. Green Bean took it upon himself to act like a jerk; if we could look into his mind at the time, maybe we could see in context the events that led up to the assholishness. This is a step toward empathy. Empathy is a good thing most of the time and it keeps us from getting too angry when anger might not be called for.
(Not that this sounds much like OCD - more like high-functioning autism, if you ask me. Gotta have my Whopner.)
That said, c’mon. When someone acts like a jerk it is not one’s duty to fashion excuses. Jerkiness is to be sought out and ridiculed except under extenuating circumstances, and the apparent jerk should be guilty until proven innocent. I daresay that if I looked deeply enough into the mind of Fred Phelps, I could empathize with him and see what made him the way he is, but I don’t want to and shouldn’t have to in order to get angry about it.
What I try to keep in mind is that we get only one side of the story with rants like these. Perception is a fickle critter. It would be interesting to hear Mr. Green Bean’s own rant, and his perception of the event.
[Mr Green Bean]
So, I go into Panda Express, looking for something simple, chicken with green beans. They always have it, and it always has my favorite part, the green beans. I sidle up to the tray and go to get some, but some mutherfucking asshole stole all of my beans!!! I go up to the moron running the register and mention to her nicely that all the beans are gone. Heck, I even called her a lady…
Guess what she says… just guess.
“I’m sorry, I’ll have more made right now.”
I mean, what the fuck kind of response is that?!?!?1111 I’ll have more made right now???
So, I let that little bitch have it. She actually expected me to wait a full 3 minutes to have a fresh batch of food made for me. Heh, when I left, she started to cry…
[/Mr. Green Bean]
You know, from his side, it looks completely different!
Whoa, that’s awesome!
The dude described in the OP is an idiot.
Where do these sad, dysfunctional people come from?!
I’m afraid I acted a bit like the green-bean guy one time years ago, arguing with an amusement park ticket seller (I think we were arriving in late afternoon & I didn’t want to pay full price, or something). It was my first day without a cigarette in a very long time, and afterwards I couldn’t believe I’d acted that way.
MizQuirk, (wishing she could describe just how proper and sweet she was in those days)
