Well, it’s a good thing he didn’t get the job anyway and she didn’t suffer any humiliation from doing so! She sure showed him, didn’t she? Body language, huh? Maybe take this to the thread about “things I believe with no evidence”?
“Bitches - amirite?”
I don’t understand the view that false accusations like this are something that women just casually toss out there all the time, and particularly in this instance where doing so would constitute a felony. Hill was a full-fledged lawyer and legal scholar, she had multiple character witnesses to back her up (who weren’t called), and she successfully passed a polygraph test. Her treatment by the Senate Judiciary Committee was appalling, and yet she stuck by - and continues to stick by - her version of events.
The narrative that Hill was just some delusional, spurned woman bent on revenge was put out by Thomas’ supporters. Apparently they flung enough of that shit for some of it to stick.
If it’s a narrative that one wants to believe, one believes it. It doesn’t require any particular shit-sticking power for that to happen.
It’s occurred to me that I should put “Pitting” in the title as per tradition-could a Mod change it for me?
Yes, and it’s been widely known for a long time that it was a frame-up.
Too bad Hill’s body language didn’t match what some people seem to think it should have been. This is the same crap that victims have to put up with in court all the time.
I wonder what her body language should have been?
Absent.
I’m OK with people vehemently disagreeing with me on this issue; I’m a big girl (in more ways than one) and can take it. I have also been harassed, by both men and women, so I’m not totally naive about it.
My opinion doesn’t affect any of this, one way or another.
Polygraphs are complete and utter bullshit, and should never be used as evidence for anything. (obviously, this does not argue against Hill’s version of events)
What should her body language have been?
Apparently you’re also OK with all the evidence vehemently disagreeing with you. Feel free to describe me pointing this out as “harassment”.
They are, but it wasn’t her idea. And Thomas refused to do so.
Whether someone does or does not agree to a polygraph also shouldn’t be used for anything, because you can’t know if they know that they’re bullshit. (I don’t disagree with your overall point. I just don’t think polygraphs should be bought up as evidence for anything, even indirectly.)
So you’re just a shitty person then.
Got it.
I agree with you Dr. Strangelove about polygraph tests being BS. One time I had to take one as part of a job application process. I was supposed to start on a certain day, and that very morning I got a call telling me I wasn’t hired after all, as I had “Failed” the test. I’ve never lied on a job application in my life, and sure as hell answered all the polygraph questions honestly. I suppose that not getting that particular job was good after all, because if you trust a machine over a person then you are a jerk.
Well, it depends on the person. I’d trust my toaster in the shower before I’d trust Trump on anything.
This is what gets to me so often. This attempt to reframe these issues into mere disagreement, when people are actually telling you that what you are doing is morally wrong and harmful.
It does fucking matter that you believe that someone lied about being sexually harassed, despite all evidence to the contrary. It matters that you think you think harassment is so unimportant that you’d rather go by a gut check of someone’s body language, rather than look at the facts.
It matters that you are the type who wants to make excuses for these types of people, because it helps them get away with it. It matters that you don’t seem to think it’s a big deal at all to disbelieve an accuser like this.
This is why this stuff is so rampant. There are so many people who want to come up with any excuse not to believe. That is what sets the cause back.
You probably aren’t interested in challenging any of your pre-conceived notions, but all you had to do was google:
(paywall warning)
I mean, why should we give any credence to you? Your body language totally screams “untrustworthy”
Wish I’d seen this yesterday:
